Student Council is an organization conducted by students and supervised by adults. The student council's purpose is to allow students to develop leadership by organizing school activities and service projects. Besides planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests, and concerns with the schoolwide community.
At RSA, Student Council is an organization at RSA that is run by Mrs. Berryman and Ms. Montemayor. The organization comprises about forty students with 5 officers and several representatives.
With Adithia Roy in the role of secretary, Emilia Santacruz acting as the treasurer, Rachel Galvan as vice president, and Jacob Suarez as the president of student council, this year is looking promising.
Student Council started in early October. They typically hold meetings in Mrs. Berryman’s room. They held the first meeting to introduce the organization and explain what they do. Their second meeting’s purpose was to determine what to do to make the Fall Festival entertaining. We can expect many more meetings and activities throughout the year.
Student Council’s goal is to bring a positive environment to RSA. Members are always working on finding flaws in the school’s surroundings and looking for solutions to solve them.
Julien Delgado thinks, “Student Council will not have as big of an impact as most would hope. My solution is to have monthly surveys of what the student body wants to happen. These surveys could be given out like Kuder in original AIME. Surveys would help people get their ideas out there, and we could meet their needs better.”
Delgado makes a good point. Evelyn Bain has a few good points of her own. According to Evelyn Bain, “Delgado is right in that we should care about what the student body wants. We should also increase the number of people in student council or give more chances to people to join. Ideally, we would have 80 to 90 students taking part.”
Not only is Student Council dedicated to improving their environment, but they are also very conscious of their actions and how they could positively affect their environment. Delgado says, “We should have more student body reps for a larger student body. The teachers help keep us grounded, but we, as student members and officers, must take more ownership of our student council.”
