ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
The Research Publications Office (RPO) is responsible for consolidating and disseminating the University’s research, extension, and development undertakings through print and online media. It helps document and promotes the Research Sectors’ contributions to the University by producing publications such as research journals, bulletins, newsletters, special reports, among others.
The RPO Mainly caters to the publication needs of the different offices, institutes, and centers that comprise the University's Research Sector. Among its services are: a) Graphic Designing of poster, program/invitation, tarpaulin, certificates; b) typesetting/layout of research journals, manual, newsletter, brochure; c) editing of manuals, journal, articles, books, magazines or newsletters, report; d) produces and publishes the Research, Extension and Development newsletter; and e) performs other tasks as maybe required by the VP for Research, Extension, and Development
DIRECTOR
The RPO is headed by a Director in charge of the overall supervision of the three sections namely, (1) Editorial Section; (2) Layout and Printing Section; and (3) Journal Management Section. Each section is managed by a section chief.
EDITING SECTION
Chief
The Editorial Section (ES) provides writing, proofreading and grammar editing services. It is composed of the Section Chief, Editors/Writers and Editorial Assistant. At present, this section is headed by a chief and a writer who are both faculty designees. The editorial assistant is a casual employee bearing the position emergency administrative aide (SG3). The current writer will be designated as Journal Management Section Chief. It is proposed for the ES to have additional three (3) writers, preferably plantilla positions with SG 15 or higher based on existing government plantilla positions (Message Writer, SG 15).
LAYOUT AND PRINTING SECTION
Chief
The Layout and Printing Section (LPS) provides graphic designing, layout, and printing services. It is composed of the Section Chief, Layout/Design Artists, and Layout/Printing Assistant. At present, this section is headed by a chief who is a faculty designee with a concurrent designation in the Academic Sector, two (2) layout artists i.e., 1 permanent (SG 10) and 1 casual (SG11), one (1) printing assistant who is a casual emergency administrative aide (SG 3). It is proposed for the LPS to have an additional Layout/Artist, preferably with plantilla position equivalent to SG 6, 8 or 11 based on existing government plantilla positions (Artist/Illustrator I to III, SG 6-11)
JOURNAL MANAGEMENT SECTION
Chief
The Journal Management Section (JMS) manages the regular production of University Journals. It is composed of the Section Chief, Managing Editors, and Editorial Assistant. JMS also coordinates with the Editorial Board of each journal. The Functions of Managing Editors will be: a) plan and manage all daily operations of the journal; b) collaborate with the editor in chief to determine issues’ content and topics; c) coordinate editorial publications and meetings; d) plan and approve assignments for writers and editors; e) control schedules and enforce deadlines (for writers, peer reviewers, editors, proofreaders, layout artists, etc.); f) oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary; g) assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style, and tone; h) implement best practices, workflows, and tools to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process; i) produces an annual copy of the journal/s assigned to them; j) attend events on behalf of the editor in chief; and, k) perform other related functions as may be assigned by the VPRED through the RPO Director and Journal Management Section Chief.
