INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION
The Research Institute for Human and Social Development (RIHSD) shall be at the forefront of the University’s determination to provide research-based solutions to societal problems particularly in the issues concerning poverty, peace, labor, human rights, environment, indigenous peoples, heritage conservation, and governance and public administration. It shall be the hub of both theoretical and practical approaches to the problems. RIHSD shall also be an incubator of programs that would push for major policy/academic initiatives and advocacies relating to the aforementioned issues.
The RIHSD recognizes that these societal issues can no longer be confined to specific fields of social sciences because of their nature. Social issues like environmental problems, poverty, peace, indigenous peoples, heritage, governance, and public administration can be addressed more accurately or efficiently through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches integrating two or more fields.
Other than being the producer of research, the Institute shall also champion important advocacies relating to the issues it seeks to address.
Director
The Research Institute of Human and Social Development (RIHSD) serves as the research hub of the Human and Social Development disciplines; institutionalizes researches and encourages experimentations and empirical research on various approaches on social development; conducts thematic seminar-workshops and conferences; publishes journals; and acts as a clearing house that supports the research requirement of the College of Human and Social Development.
The Director of RIHSD has the following duties and responsibilities: a) manage its operation and those of its constituent centers; b) implement policies and programs relevant to the realization of its mandate, including those of its constituent centers; c) initiate local, national and international networks or linkages that may advance its advocacies and the interest of the university pertinent to Human and Social Development; d) evaluate and recommend research works in the areas of Human and Social Development; e) introduce policies and standards relevant to research for the purpose of improving its operation and better benefit of its stakeholders; f) organize research capability building programs and other activities that may capacitate its stakeholders; and, g) engage actively in research in the areas of Human and Social Development.
CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) raise people’s awareness and consciousness on global warming, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and ecological protection for sustainable development; b) establishes and maintains linkages with national and international organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions engaged in similar activities to facilitate research, rights education, and advocacy; c) assists the faculty, staff, and students towards implementing rights centered pedagogy, programs, and research; d) conducts research that could contribute to the existing knowledge on human rights studies in the Philippines; and, e) presents research conducted as well as provides avenues for dissemination of related works.
CENTER FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) formulates plans and programs towards the development of research and studies on indigenous peoples and related issues; b) undertakes researches, organizes lectures, symposia, conferences and the like promoting effective and efficient indigenous people’s studies; c) establishes linkages and networking activities with groups and agencies having similar objectives; d) publishes papers and documents on-field experience and theoretical studies on indigenous peoples; e) provides consultancy and advisory services on indigenous people’s research, and development studies; and, f) establishes Professorial Chairs, Fellowship Grants, Scholarships and Student/Faculty Exchange Programs for the study of IP.
CENTER FOR LABOR AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) formulates programs towards the development, promotion, and implementation of a research agenda that is labor centered; b) establishes and maintains linkages with national and international organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions engaged in similar activities to facilitate research, labor education, and advocacy; c) assists the faculty, staff, and students towards implementing labor centered pedagogy, programs, and research and, d) conducts and disseminates research studies that could contribute to the existing knowledge on labor studies in the Philippines.
CENTER FOR PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND GOVERNANCE STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) formulates plans and programs towards the development of research and studies on public administration, governance, and related issues; b) undertakes researches, organizes lectures, symposia, conferences, and the like promoting effective and efficient public administration and governance; c) establishes linkages and networking activities with groups and agencies having similar objectives; d) publishes papers and documents on-field experience and theoretical studies on public administration and governance; e) provides consultancy and advisory services on public administration and governance research, and development studies; f) establishes Professorial Chairs, Fellowship Grants, Scholarships and Student/Faculty Exchange Programs for the study of public administration and governance; and, g) promotes integration of courses on good public administration and governance in the curriculum for a bachelor’s degree as a minor field of study.
CENTER FOR PEACE, SOCIAL JUSTICE, AND HUMAN RIGHTS STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) to initiate research projects that focus on economic, political, social, cultural and historical underpinnings of social justice that reflects on issues concerning human rights, conflict and peace studies that leads to knowledge generation; b) to conduct capacity building activities that are socially relevant, participatory, bridges theory and practice and connects these with pedagogy to inform, challenge, and encourage students and faculty to engage in studies on peace, social justice, and human rights; c) to establish and maintain linkages with national and international institutions, government and non-government organizations, and people’s networks that are engaged in peace, social justice, and rights research and advocacy; and d) to communicate the with most affected stakeholders to engage in knowledge production.
CENTER FOR POVERTY ALLEVIATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) to institutionalize the study of peace through community development, the center will develop modules for use in courses on these topics. An important task of the center is to organize courses and educational activities which could be included in the curricula of social sciences and other programs; b) to establish links with institutions and individuals which/who specialize in the study of peace, poverty and community development; c) to forge ties with organizations advocating peace and eradication of poverty through social action, community development and research; and, d) to disseminate research outputs through publications, fora and conferencing such as to build an intellectual reputation for the university in general and the center in particular.
CENTER FOR HERITAGE STUDIES
Chief
The Center has the following duties and responsibilities: a) formulates plans and programs towards the development of research and studies on heritage conservation and related issues; b) undertakes researches, organizes lectures, symposia, conferences and the like promoting effective and efficient heritage conservation; c) establishes linkages and networking activities with groups and agencies having similar objectives; d) publishes papers and documents on-field experience and theoretical studies on heritage conservation; e) provides consultancy and advisory services on heritage conservation research and development studies; and, f) establishes Professorial Chairs, Fellowship Grants, Scholarships and Student/Faculty Exchange Programs for the study of heritage conservation.
FACULTY RESEARCHER
The Faculty Researcher commits the following: a) to promote the University’s brand of social science and development scientific research by producing and publishing high quality research articles, books, and book chapters in peer-viewed local and international publications, preferably indexed in the CHED-JIP, Asian Citation Index (ACI), Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS); b) to lead in the University’s research production in the field of social science and development by submitting one (1) article or book chapter at least every two months to peer-reviewed journals or books, or to write and publish a peer-reviewed research book or monograph at least once a year, preferably indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science; c) to improve local and international linkages by participating in academic conference, peer-reviewing, editorship, and the like in the field of social science and development; d) to lead in research and publication capability training for the IHSD; and, e) to provide scientific advice to the IHSD and CSSD on research and publication matters.
PROJECT COORDINATOR
Center for Environment Studies
The Project Coordinator commits the following: a) establishes and maintains linkages with national and international organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions engaged in similar activities to facilitate research, rights education, and advocacy; b) look for possible externally funded researches and projects in line of environmental protection and climate change adaptation/mitigation; and, c) help the chief in organizing and conducting advocacies (education, information, and campaigns) in promoting good environmental practices.
