RIST ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The Research Institute for Science and Technology (RIST) integrates holistic programs to implement various strategies in pursuing science and technology research in the field of life science, physical science, mathematics, engineering, computing, and information science. It promotes scientific consciousness and produce relevant research and development expertise in the academe. Thus, developing indigenous, scientific, and technological advancement in accordance with the university’s goal towards the advancement of social and capital innovation.

The general function of the institute is to formulate and implement plans, programs and strategies for science and technology through research and development. Specifically, its four specific functions are (1) conduct of research, (2) establishing linkages and collaborations, (3) evaluation, publication, and promotion of research and (4) research training and extension.

RIST FUNCTION

To promote the Science and Technology research agenda of the university through the conduct of lectures, seminars, colloquia, workshops, and symposia;
To formulate and implement plans, programs, and strategies for science and technology through research and development;
To undertake and/or supervise science and technology research funded internally or by nationally and/or international funding institutions;
To disseminate research results thru publications to local, national, and/or international conferences or fora;
To mentor and assist Science and Technology Researchers (from inside and outside the university) through consultancies and sharing the use of the research laboratory.

The RIST Director has the following job roles/functions:

a) ensures effective and efficient management of the research programs and administrative affairs of the research centers, which are specifically aligned with the university’s research priorities and agenda;

b) maintains the confidence and cooperation of the research centers through ensuring the undertaking of high-quality researches and dissemination of research outputs to the scientific community and other stakeholders;

c) initiates and leads in the establishment of strong local, national and international networks with researchers and research institutes in the field of specialization as well as partnerships and/or collaborations with industries and commercial enterprises;

d) participates as member of the University Research and Development Council (UREDCO) in the priority-setting, implementation, and evaluation of the research and development program of the university and all other activities under this component of the institute; and ,

e) ensures the periodic publication of the PUP Journal of Science and Technology and all other activities in the publication and promotion component of the institute

CENTER FOR COMPUTING AND INFORMATION SCIENCES RESEARCH (CCISR)

The Center for Computing and Information Sciences Research (CCISR) focuses in developing theoretical and applied studies of computation and algorithmic reasoning, modelling, and analysis, technical aspect of software systems that can be utilized by various areas of discipline and contribute positive impact to the society. The CCSIR includes research areas, but not limited to the following:

Web Design and Application Development
Network Administration

At present, CCSIR is composed of two (2) laboratories namely, Data Science Laboratory and Information Science Laboratory headed by the current CCISR chief, who is a faculty designee.

CENTER FOR ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH (CETR)

Center Chief

The Center for Engineering and Technology Research (CETR) fosters multidisciplinary research and development in the different fields of engineering. CETR is an outcomes-oriented research center that undertakes engineering research and incorporates the latest technological advances to produce globally competitive innovations. The CETR includes research, but not limited, to the following areas:

Biomedical Engineering.
Mechanical Engineering.
Civil Engineering.
Chemical Engineering.
Electrical Engineering.
Biotechnology

At present, CETR is composed of two (2) laboratories namely, Engineering Laboratory and Technology Laboratory, which is headed by a chief, a designated faculty.

CENTER FOR NATURAL SCIENCES AND RESOURCE RESEARCH (CNSRR)

The Center for Natural Sciences and Resource Research (CNSRR) integrates the areas of life and physical sciences to promote scientific advancement. The CNSRR includes research in but is not limited to the following areas:

CNSRR is composed of four (4) laboratories located namely, (1) Phycology Laboratory; (2) Microbiology and Parasitology Laboratory; (3) Mini-Food Laboratory, and (4) PUP Herbarium.

CENTER FOR INTEGRATED COMMUNITY SCIENCE RESEARCH (CISR)

Center Chief

The Center for Integrated Community Science Research (CICSR) is a newly created center that primarily integrates the multidimensional structure of community science for community engagement and development. CICSR includes transdisciplinary research to develop interrelationships between people and their environment fostering healthy and safe communities; collaborations of community science and health; promotion of public health through one health approach to control zoonosis, food safety and the environment; and food security through basic research understanding dietary sources. The CNSRR includes research in but is not limited to the following areas:

Community Health and Nutrition,
Environmental Studies and Disaster Management
Community Education
Infectious Disease Epidemiology
Food Hygiene and Sanitation

CNSRR works hand-in-hand with RIST Research centers for the implementation of Community-related research projects/programs.
