1. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
1.1 Introduction
The Research Institute for Science and Technology (RIST), formerly the Institute for Science and Technology Research (ISTR) centralizes the research activities of the university in the areas of science and technology. The RIST is focused in the conduct of researches in the field of engineering, chemistry, life science, physics, and mathematics, computer sciences, and information and communication technology.
Today, the RIST covers at least four (4) different centers namely Center for Life Science Research (CLSR), Center for Physical Science Research (CPSR), Center for Engineering and Technology Research (CETR), and Center for Mathematics, Computing and Information Science Research (CMCISR). Created in 2012, these centers are conducting researches in their respective line of expertise as well as establishing and maintaining linkages with other researchers and research institutes, both locally and internationally. It has also seen the completion and publication of several research outputs.
The vision of the institute is to achieve a prominent status and culture of efficiency and accuracy in the scientific community. These can be achieved by producing highly innovative research activities and outputs that are globally competitive.
1.2 Purpose
The RIST integrates holistic programs to implement various strategies in pursuing science and technology researches in the filed of life science, physical science, mathematics, engineering, computing and information science. It promotes scientific consciousness and produce relevant research and development expertise in the academe. Thus, developing indigenous, scientific and technological advancement in accordance with the university’s goal towards the advancement of social and capital innovation.
2. ORGANIZATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 Organization and Key Personnel
The Institute for Science and Technology Research (ISTR) is directly reporting to the Office of Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development (OVPREPD) with the following organization and functions.
2.2 Functional Statements of the Organizational Entities
The general function of the institute is to formulate and implement plans, programs and strategies for science and technology through research and development. Specifically, its four specific functions are (1) conduct of research, (2) establishing linkages and collaborations, (3) publication and promotion, and (4) training and extension.
