DEWA's active participation in the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) has been a cornerstone of our commitment to excellence and innovation. With each cycle, we aim to elevate our organization to new heights, embodying the principles of excellence in every facet of our operations. In this cycle, DEWA achieved the Elite category for the second time. This success stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication and collective effort of our employees.
Objectives:
To propel DEWA towards even greater excellence, we launched an internal project with the following objectives:
1. Prepare for the current cycle: This involves immersing ourselves in the DGEP criteria, identifying areas for improvement, and devising a comprehensive plan to address them.
2. Targeted score of 750: Setting ambitious goals to surpass previous achievements and raise the bar for excellence.
3. Update Internal Themes: Evolving our internal themes to align with the dynamic landscape of our industry, including the introduction of themes such as agility and change management.
4. Collect and analyze KPIs: A concerted effort to gather key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze results, and leverage insights to drive continuous improvement across all aspects of our organization.
5. Link capabilities with results: Aligning our organizational capabilities with desired outcomes, identifying gaps, and implementing strategies to address them effectively.
6. Apply the six elements storytelling methodology: Utilizing storytelling techniques to communicate the impact and value of our work to stakeholders, fostering engagement and alignment.
7. Enhance the readiness of teams: Equipping our teams with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to excel in the DGEP, ensuring our collective success.
Key Milestones and Achievements:
1. Preparation for the current cycle: Through rigorous analysis and planning, we have identified areas for improvement and developed strategies to address them effectively.
2. Update Internal Themes: Our internal thematic framework underwent a comprehensive overhaul to reflect the evolving landscape of our industry and organizational priorities. This process involved revising and expanding upon our themes, resulting in a total of 27 distinct themes. Notably, themes such as agility and change management were introduced to address emerging challenges and opportunities effectively.
3. Collect and analyze KPIs: By collecting and analyzing over 307 KPIs, we have gained valuable insights into our performance, enabling targeted interventions to drive improvement.
4. Link capabilities with results: Aligning our capabilities with desired outcomes has enabled us to leverage our strengths effectively and address areas for development.
5. Apply the six elements storytelling methodology: Communicating the impact of our work through compelling storytelling has fostered understanding and appreciation among stakeholders. This included developing a DEWA presentation and collecting data on the impacts of our results at the global, regional, and local levels, encompassing more than 162 reports and 96 benchmarks for our KPIs. Additionally, we conducted extensive stakeholder engagement sessions to ensure alignment with organizational goals and values.
6. Enhance the readiness of teams: By investing in the development of our teams, we have bolstered our collective readiness to excel in the DGEP and beyond.
7. Mock Assessment: A mock assessment covering all themes was conducted, with feedback reports analyzed and areas for improvement considered.
8. Themes Rehearsal: A rehearsal lasting five working days with top management and theme owners was conducted, ensuring thorough preparation and alignment with organizational objectives.
Impact:
The DGEP project has had a profound impact on DEWA, resulting in tangible improvements in customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and cost savings. Beyond the recognition and awards received, the project has reinforced our commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer focus. Moving forward, we remain steadfast in our dedication to participation in the DGEP and achieving even greater levels of excellence in the future.
