Project Overview
The Investors in People (IIP) Award is an internationally recognized standard for excellence in people management. It acknowledges organizations that demonstrate a strong and sustained commitment to developing and empowering their workforce.
In alignment with DEWA’s strategic commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of excellence, the Human Resources Department initiated a project to prepare for the IIP certification. The Excellence Projects Department was assigned to lead and manage the project in close collaboration with HR, ensuring effective alignment with the IIP framework and DEWA’s excellence approach.
Project Objectives
The primary objective of this initiative was to achieve the Investors in People Platinum Award, positioning DEWA among the leading employers in the UAE. To achieve this goal, the project focused on the following specific objectives:
Assess Current Practices: Conduct a comprehensive review of DEWA’s existing people management systems and practices against the IIP framework.
Identify and Address Gaps: Highlight areas for improvement and develop a structured action plan to address identified gaps.
Implement and Monitor: Execute the improvement plan while monitoring progress to ensure alignment with the IIP criteria.
Employee Engagement: Actively involve employees at all levels to ensure their perspectives and needs are integrated throughout the process.
Achieve Platinum Recognition: Attain the highest level of IIP certification, demonstrating DEWA’s excellence in people management.
Key Milestones and Achievements
Conducted a detailed review of all relevant project documents, presentations, and submission materials to ensure completeness and consistency with IIP standards.
Developed a comprehensive DEWA Context Presentation for assessors, showcasing DEWA’s organizational culture, leadership practices, and people development strategies.
Designed and delivered a presentation for the official assessment phase, highlighting DEWA’s commitment to employee empowerment and performance excellence.
Actively participated in the external assessment process by responding to assessors’ inquiries and providing supporting evidence and documentation.
Conducted awareness sessions and coaching for divisional teams, ensuring they understood the IIP framework, its principles, and the assessment methodology.
Prepared a detailed site visit plan that facilitated meaningful interactions between assessors and employees across different divisions and levels.
Coordinated and supported all activities during the assessment site visit, ensuring a smooth and effective process that reflected DEWA’s culture of collaboration and excellence.
Project Outcome
Through the concerted efforts of the HR Department, divisional teams, and the Excellence Projects Department, DEWA successfully achieved the Investors in People (IIP) Platinum Award. This recognition reflects DEWA’s strong commitment to employee engagement, leadership development, and continuous improvement in people management practices—reinforcing its position as a model organization in the UAE and beyond.
