Project Description:
The Deming Prize is a prestigious award that recognizes organizations for excellence in quality management. It was established in Japan in 1951 by Dr. W. Edwards Deming, a renowned statistician and quality management expert who made significant contributions to Japan's post-war economic recovery. The Deming Prize is highly sought after by organizations around the world, as it is seen as a symbol of excellence and a commitment to continuous improvement.
DEWA Excellence- Projects Department has embarked on a project to prepare for the Deming Prize, with the goal of achieving this prestigious award. The project has three main phases shown in the figure bellow.
Phase II (2022) of the project has been focused on building a strong foundation for success and identifying, prepare the required documents, and addressing areas for improvement within DEWA.
Objectives:
Preparation of Deming prize Pre-Application Consultation application & Documents: The goal of this objective was to gather all necessary documentation and complete the pre-application consultation process for the Deming Prize. This included gathering information about DEWA, quality management system, and results achieved.
Preparation DEWA TQM Framework: DEWA TQM (Total Quality Management) Framework is a set of guidelines and principles that we use to ensure that we are continuously improving the quality of our products and services. The goal of this objective was to develop DEWA TQM Framework to ensure that it is in alignment with the requirements of the Deming Prize.
Preparation DEWA TQM Journey: The DEWA TQM Journey is a roadmap for continuous improvement, outlining the steps we will take to achieve our Total Quality Management goals.
Preparation DEWA TQM Phases by Years: This objective focused on breaking down our DEWA TQM Journey into specific phases, with each phase representing a year of progress towards our quality management goals.
Preparation DEWA Quality Assurance Framework: The DEWA Quality Assurance Framework is a set of guidelines and principles that we use to ensure that our products and services meet the highest standards of quality. The goal of this objective was to developed DEWA Quality Assurance Framework to ensure that it is in alignment with the requirements of the Deming Prize.
DTQMP Preparation (Enterprise): DTQMP (Document for Total Quality Management Practices) is a comprehensive Document that shows the adopting of the TQM practices on the level of DEWA Enterprise.
DTQMP Preparation (Divisions): DTQMP (Document for Total Quality Management Practices) is a comprehensive Document that shows the adopting of the TQM practices on the level of each division.
Building Capabilities: The goal of this objective was to build the capabilities of our team members through training and development in the principles of quality management and the requirements of the Deming Prize.
Key Milestones and Achievements:
Phase one of the Deming Prize project has been a success, with significant progress made towards our goal of achieving the Deming Prize for excellence in quality management. During this phase, we have focused on identifying and addressing areas for improvement within divisions, as well as building a strong foundation for the continued success of the project. To comply with the requirements, we are preparing the following documents which will enhance and improve the excellence, quality, and continues improvement culture in DEWA:
Total Quality Management Principles: This document outlines the principles that guide our approach to quality management and continuous improvement. It includes a description of our quality policy, as well as our commitment to meeting stakeholders needs and exceeding their expectations.
TQM Framework: The TQM Framework is a set of guidelines and principles that we use to ensure that we are continuously improving the quality of our products and services. This document outlines the specific steps we take to implement TQM within DEWA and used as a management model.
TQM Phases: This document breaks down our TQM journey into specific phases, with each phase representing a year of progress towards our quality management goals. It includes a description of the activities and milestones that we implemented on in each phase.
DEWA DTQMP Enterprise Level: The DTQMP Enterprise is a comprehensive Document (Submission) that helps organizations achieve the Deming Prize. This document outlines the specific steps we will take to participate the Deming Prize.
DTQMP Divisional documents: These documents outline the specific steps that each division within DEWA will take to participate and contribute to the success of the project.
Quality Assurance Framework: The Quality Assurance Framework is a set of guidelines and principles that we use to ensure that our products and services meet the highest standards of quality. This document outlines the specific steps we take to implement a quality assurance system within DEWA.
Improvements Framework: The Improvements Framework is a set of guidelines and principles that we use to identify and address areas for improvement within DEWA. This document outlines the specific steps we take to continuously improve our products and services.
Training and Awareness: we conducted the following trainings and awareness to all concerns employees in divisions:
Awareness session about Deming prize, Criteria, and TQM: (50) Session attended by more than (1500) employee.
Training on the Deming prize requirements: (12) Training sessions attended by (100)
3. Implementing the eight steps improvements: we introduce this improvement method for solving the problems and conducted three workshops for the core divisions. We tackled six problems and put improvements plan to solve. The workshops attended by (70) employee and the EVPs participated in solving the problems.
4. Mock TQM Diagnosis:
Conducted over three days, comprising extensive sessions focused on overall DEWA practices and divisional assessments.
Included twenty-four sessions, with nine sessions dedicated to Schedule A (Overall DEWA) and fourteen sessions to Schedule B (Divisions).
Attended by top management (EVPs, VPs, SMs) and all concerned stakeholders, totaling 1086 employees.
Informal diagnosis provided valuable insights into DEWA's TQM practices, guiding further improvements.
Overall, we are confident in our ability to achieve the Deming Prize and believe that the improvements made during phase one have laid a strong foundation for continued success. I lead this project and still running.
