Module 5 - OER & Open Pedagogy
In this module, we explored two important concepts: OER (open educational resources) and Open Pedagogy. Unlike the topics we've covered in the past four weeks, OER and open learning/pedagogy aren't new. However, awareness and adoption of OER have been gradual, and its implementation is still emerging. OER serves as a catalyst for accelerating the generation of new ideas and knowledge. OER also holds immense potential for solving the accessibility and equity issues in education. Throughout this module, we delved into the foundational understanding of these concepts/approaches and examine existing programs and platforms for OER.
We prepared a video presentation (about 10 minutes) to address the following topics
1. What are the defining features of OER and what are the instructional benefits of OER?
2. What is open pedagogy? (Note that this is still a fluid concept. Feel free to explore thoughts other than those of David Wiley.)
3. What are the most widely recognized programs/platforms for OER (e.g., OER Commons, Rice's OpenStax, Cal State System's MERLOT, Carnegie Mellon's OLI)?
4. What are your state or workplace's current OER resources and implementation status?
