Module 2 - AI & Adaptive/Personalized Learning
AI is not a new idea. It can be traced back to 1950 when Alan Turing, the British mathematician and logician, published a paper, entitled, "Computing Machinery and Intelligence." After semi-centennial growth, AI has reached a breakthrough in technical development and implementation in society. The release of Chat GPT 3.0 on 11/30/2022 has stormed the internet and we've witnessed the 3rd breakthrough of digital technology in human history, following the invention of the computer and the internet.
AI holds immense and powerful potential in education, which is considered "revolutionary." In this module, we explored and learned about the potential of AI in education, along with some specific programs, including AI programs for text, audio, music, image, arts, and video.
We prepared a video presentation to address the following topics on AI and Adaptive/Personalized Learning.
Part A: For the presentation on AI, we focused on the exploration and experimentation with one or two specific AI programs/tools - introduced in the Learning Materials section, from our research, or from our practice. We explained to the class the specific AI tool/program: (1) key technological features (what it is/how it works), (2) instructional benefits (why it helps teaching/learning), and (3) potential implementation in your profession or workplace (how you would actually use it). We showed our hands-on use of a specific AI tool through screen demos or concrete examples—purely conceptual discussion of AI would not meet this module's requirements.
Part B: For the discussion on Adaptive / Personalized Learning: (1) we briefly defined each term (adaptive learning vs. personalized learning), and (2) explained how they differ and where they overlap.
