NJ Devils Jamboree

Game Recap

"The Crazy 8’s started their season on Saturday, playing in the MAWHA Season Kickoff jamboree. With only two practices under their belt, the girls showed incredible teamwork and effort and came away with a 2-1-1 record.

With star goalie L. Segal unable to attend the jamboree, R. Ilg  volunteered to play between  the pipes in the Lady Patriots first matchup against the Little Flyers. Ilg shut the door on multiple Little Flyers chances and made several big saves. Offensively the Lady Patriots got going with early goals from V. Dragos and J. Scheuermann. The Lady Patriots played tenacious D in their own zone to secure a 5-2 win.

In the second matchup, the Lady Patriots faced off against the Princeton Tigerlillies. A. Lorand handled the goaltending duties and impressed in her debut with two key saves on breakaways early in the game. Despite the key saves, PTL was able to jump out to a 3-1 lead. The Lady Patriots defense settled down and led R. Ilg and C. Connors shut PTL’s offense down in the second half of the game. Late goals by V. Dragos and P. Demmer pulled the Patriots even and the game finished in a 3-3 tie.

Game 3 featured a matchup against the NJ Colonials (White) team. J. Scheuermann was absolutely stellar in net and frustrated the Colonials offense all game long. P. Demmer sparked the offense with a Hat Trick and C. Connors added 2 goals and a beautiful assist to V. Dragos who found the back of the net. A. Lorand played tough D all game and the Lady Patriots earned a 7-1 victory.

After a much needed pretzel break and running on fumes, the Lady Patriots faced their toughest test of the day in their final game against the NJ Colonials (Red) team. P. Demmer put the pads on and was brilliant in net. Her strategy of “I’m gonna take away the bottom of the net and make them shoot high” led to several big saves. A. Lorand scored her first goal of the season as the LP’s hung tough and remained tied with the Colonials 2-2 until the final 10 minutes. Eventually the Colonials pulled away and the crazy 8’s took a 5-2 loss.

The coaches couldn’t have been more proud of this group and expect big things this season!!

Also, the team wanted to give a big SHOUT OUT to coach Lori, who ran a fantastic skills session throughout the day! Nice Job Coach!!!!"

Game Recap

Lady Patriots vs Little Flyers (Black)

Patriots opened their MAWHA play this weekend with the first of two matchups at IceWorks. Little Flyers Black came out quick with a goal and Patriots own A. Richards answered back with a top shelf beauty of her own to get the Patriots on the board.

Richards continued to battle hard throughout the game getting more shots and blocks throughout the game. Her linemates, G. Aveta-Gentile and V. Naticchione were instrumental in assisting most of the Patriots offensive drives.

The line of S. Cabrales, L Thomas, and A. Bucci worked together to use their speed and board battles to ensure that the Little Flyers were slowed down coming into the Patriots end.

Defensively the Patriots had G. Naticchione leading the force with clearing the puck and strong breakout passes, C. North sniped a couple shots pass the LF offensive point protections. S. Carter was vocal in the defensive zone to help direct traffic.

First year Patriot M. Goldsmith stopped nearly 40 shots in the game versus the Little Flyers in just her second game as a Patriot!

Game Recap

Lady Patriots vs Little Flyers (Orange)

Patriots returned to Aston to face off against the Little Flyers Orange team. Patriots came in full steam ahead with a goal for over 20 shots on net, which they accomplished 34 shots on net for the 45 minute game.

M. Goldsmith stood tall and blocked nine shots that came her direction and skated away with the win in her new threads.

S. Cabrales started the Patriots' comeback from 0-1 off a shot from Thomas. G Aveta-Gentile followed up closely with a goal of passes from C. North and Thomas. Second period was L. Thomas shining period on offense with her top shelf shooting to earn her a hat trick on the game. G. Naticchione began the scoring streak in the second period and the Patriots took off running. The entire second period was owned by the Patriots dominating the play with five goals and 11 shots and only allowing one shot from the Little Flyers. Aveta-Gentile added the 5th goal to the second period, from a pass off A. Richards and Thomas. Final period of play brought the Patriots 2 more goals off the stick of Richards less than 2 minutes apart.

14UAA Game Recap
Lady Patriots 14 AA-Lady Knights 14 AA
Saturday, Sept. 9th

Lady Patriots 14U AA traveled to Pottston Saturday for a non-league match up with the lady Knights 14U AA. This tight Contest stayed competitive the entire game, and ultimately ended in a 1-1 tie. The first period remained scoreless, with the LK defense effectively shutting down the LP offense. The Lady Patriots found their bearings in the second period, taking more shots including a goal by Avery Micciche assisted by Emma Berger. Several other shots rang off the post, but never found the back of the net for a second goal. The game remained 1-0 until the last two minutes of the third period, when Lady Knights scored, tying the game at 1–1.

Lady Patriots goalie and player of the game Rachel Swidorski was lights out, successfully saving 34 out of 35 shots on goal. Also, a big defensive shout out to Hanlon Meyers for speed and focus all three periods."

Game Recap

14UAA Game Recap 9/15-9/17

Lady Patriots 14 UAA faced fierce competition this past weekend starting Friday with a scrimmage against Upland Country School Varsity Prep. Upland County is extremely well practiced, and played three periods of smart physical hockey. While this game ended in a 9–2 loss for LP, the big story here is the Lady Patriots played hard the entire game and got better each period. LP started the third period down 7–0, when C. Sullivan scored at the 9:15 minute mark, assisted by Q. Gorniak and K. Wenhold. LP kept at it and K. Wenhold scored unassisted at the 4:35 minute mark.Shout out to player of the game H. Meyers for swinging over to offense and nonstop hustle all three periods.

Saturday, LP faced the reigning 14UAA MAWHA Champion Junior Flyers, and while this ultimately ended in a 5–0 loss, LP goalie R.  Swidorski stopped 47 out of 52 shots on goal to make this a game. Also, the LP forwards did an excellent job back checking, taking away additional JF scoring opportunities. LP skated hard all three periods against a very talented Junior Flyers team, and successfully defended two power plays. Congratulations to player of the game Rachel Swidorski, who also recognized P. Hartz for her  defensive hustle.

The weekend ended Sunday at Little Flyers Black, another tough matchup for Lady Patriots that ended in a 8-0 loss. Although LP did a great job of staying out of the penalty box, they were unable to capitalize on multiple power-play opportunities. LP did a better job this game of creating more offensive opportunities, shout out to player of the game A. Amato for her defensive hustle, as well as her ability to carry the puck up the ice and put shots on goal. Another shout out to defender T. O’Keefe for her hustle all weekend.
