Weekend of January 2022

U10 vs Little Flyers

Lady Patriots 10UA took on the Philadelphia Little Flyers in league play this weekend to a hard-fought team battle. 10U came out firing on all cylinders starting with aggressive forechecking from A. Willison and K. Smoyer and tight neutral zone defense from A. Frantz and V. Naticchione shut down any chance the Little Flyers had at securing the offensive zone. 10UA scored first with a gritty goal by A. Willison off an assist from O. Connors!. Not long after, the Little Flyers were able to tally 2 to head into the second up 2-1.

The second and third periods saw both teams battle intensely to secure their position as top dog in the matchup. C. Schultz and D. Thomas fought hard in the faceoff circle to help push momentum in the Patriot’s direction. A. Yarborough and A. Bucci battled strongly along the boards to stifle many Flyers’ chances of successful breakouts. P. Rogers and T. Fistick delivered tenacious play throughout the neutral zone to recover turnovers, turning them into fruitful regroups. Steadfast backchecking and goaltender protection by S. Carter helped P. Hartz shut down countless scoring opportunities by the Flyers. The Patriots skated strong throughout the game and were rarely outnumbered in battles, showing excellent teamwork and support for each other. P. Hartz played a phenomenal game and stood on her head to make saves and keep the game close. Ultimately, 10U fell to the Little Flyers 4-1, the closest of the matchups to date!

The coaching staff are immensely proud of the 10U team’s game play this weekend.

Hardest worker: C. Schultz and A. Willison

U10 vs In House Maple Leafs

Lady Patriots U10 came back from their holiday break ready to take on the In House Maple Leafs. The Patriots came out quick with three goals in the first three lines. Defensively the Patriots held the Maple Leafs, in their defensive zone. The Leafs were unable to enter the Patriots' zone without heavy pressure from the defensive squad. P. Rogers turned away shots from the Maple Leafs and covered pucks in front of her crease to thwart any chances for the goals.

Offensively Patriots saw goals produced on both lines of forwards. FIRST GOAL ALERT: A. Bucci secured her first career Patriot goal with a shot from the high slot, stick on the ice and ready to shoot.

Overall the game was one of the best team hockey game that the coaches have seen out of this young team. Going into the second half of the season this is a great start to the weekend of strong hockey. Every player was showing effort and heart throughout the game and this allowed them to "beat the boys!"

U12 A vs PHL Liberties

After some early January game cancellations, the 12A squad was back in action against the Philadelphia Liberties at the Flyers Training Center this past Saturday and the Skyland Lady Kings on Sunday. It was an up and down weekend for the girls as they defeated the Liberties by a score of 7-0 and then were defeated by the Lady Kings by the exact 0-7 score.

Against the Liberties, with her first goal as a Lady Patriot, K. Lang opened the scoring with a beautiful, hard wrist shot from the slot to make it 1-0. The Patriots would add 3 more in the first period off goals from E. Mays, C. North, and A. Richards.

In the second period, the Patriots displayed great positioning and movement up ice which led to a goal by E. Kremser. More continued forechecking and cycling in the offensive zone brought about two more goals from C. North and E. Mays en route to a 7-0 win. M. Stahl was steadfast in goal earning her 3rd shutout of the season.

U12 A vs Skyland Kings

An early wake up call on Sunday had the Patriots traveling to Northern NJ to face the very quick Skyland Lady Kings. The speed of the Lady Kings kept the Lady Patriots hemmed in their zone for a majority of the first period which lead to 3 Lady Kings goals. As the game progressed, the Lady Patriots started to match the Kings speed and started to get some chances up ice as well as establish a good forecheck. Great drives up ice by the defense of Q. Gorniak, A, Richards, H. Meyers, and E. Kremser led to some good chances by the Patriots. A. Micciche, C. North, and E. Mays continued to forecheck hard and created multiple opportunities. In the end, the Patriots could't get on the board and were turned away with a 7-0 loss to the Kings. M. Stahl faced 37 quality shots and continued her stellar play in net for the Patriots.

The 12A squad looks forward to hosting the Princeton Youth girls team this Saturday and then travels to face off against league rivals the Little Flyers on Sunday.

Colonials notched a point at the end of the first. P. Hartz would go on to turn away 33 shots. Defensively, T. Fistick stepped up and played aggressive defense. Offensively, C. Schultz dominated the ice with her forechecks and backchecks. She was a force to be reckoned with in the game.
