Game Recaps
Weekend of November 20 - 21, 2021

U19 A vs Snider

The Lady Patriots beat Snider this Sunday 8-1. The first period was extremely close with a goal from Snider and none for the Patriots, but the team came out victorious in the end. Goals were scored by I.Grusheski (3), A.Ruoff (1), I.Carter (1), C.Rosenthal (1), and A. Michalowski (1).

U8 vs In House Predators

8u started their weekend with a Friday night practice and a 7am start Saturday morning for an in house game.

7am proved to be hard on the girls as the game began against the Predators. The Predators came to play and as the first period continued on, the girls woke up faster than S. Richards can skate!

L. Thomas was the first to score in what would be a series on pucks in the net for the Patriots. E. Sprague showed no fear against the boys as she held her ground during each shift. A. Myers skated hard and hustled throughout the game. D. Strobel dug in hard for the puck putting it all out there on the ice. S. Bambi proved she’s as good at goalie as she is at puck handling. P. Hartz has mastered the wrap around, landing the puck in the net each time. A. Pinchuk held her ground during the last period as goalie, leading the Patriots to a solid ending against the Predators.

Each game the girls are skating faster, strengthening their puck handling, communicating better and most importantly having fun!"

U10 vs Snider

Sleeping in for a mid morning game proved to be just what 10U needed to finish out with a weekend sweep! The extra sleep showed effective for quality team play as every goal scored had an assist!

Dominating the play, the Patriots tallied 8 shots before netting their first goal by D. Thomas with assist from O. Connors. Setting up strong in the offensive zone, the Patriots made themselves right at home by winning races to the puck and spreading out to create open space, drawing Snider off their marks. Properly timed line changes allowed for fantastic point shots from K. Smoyer and A. Frantz.

The second period opened with quality team play in the neutral zone by C. Schultz and A. Yarborough to prevent Snider advances into the Patriots zone. On an excellent on-sides play, O. Connors scored off a hard fought assist from P. Rogers. Less than two minutes later, A. Willison earned the Patriots third goal with an assist from O. Connors.

The third period had more action for goaltender P. Hartz who turned away 3 of 4 shots faced this period! Finishing strong, D. Thomas earned her FIRST HATRRICK off assists from A. Willison and C. Schultz!!!!

This is the first game every goal had an assist this season and the coaches could not be more proud heading into this Thanksgiving week!

Hardest Worker Awarded to D. Thomas
Most Vocal Awarded to K. Smoyer (Birthday Girl!)

U10 vs In House Leafs

Early Saturday morning brought on the Carter sibling showdown in a hard fought match with both teams bringing the heat!
The Patriots struck first with a goal from A. Willison, on an assist by T. Fistick. Even though the Patriots dominated play, the Leafs would tally 2 goals before the end of the first heading into the second with a 2-1 lead. Not to be out matched, strong back checking from S. Carter and A. Frantz aided goaltender P. Rogers with clearing rebounds from the front to prevent any Leaf goals in the second.
The scoring continued with A. Willison tallying 2 more goals to complete her FIRST HAT TRICK!!! The third period brought on a tough battle from the Leafs as they were able to add one more goal and the Patriots adding three more. Strong defensive plays on the blue line helped lead A. Frantz to her goal, with another assist by T. Fistick!
A. Willison finished strong with one more goal and D. Thomas added an unassisted goal to give her 2 points on the game.
The Patriots rose the increased pressure of "beating the brothers" in this game and look forward to the next sibling rivalry matchup.
Hardest Worker Awarded to: C. Schultz

Most Vocal Awarded to: A. Yarborough

U14 vs NY Islanders

Lady Patriots 14U A, with a short bench due to many families traveling due to holiday travels, played to a narrow loss against the NY Islanders on Long Island this weekend.

New goalie A. Gurt is finding her way as she turned away 40 of 41 shots in a 1-0 loss.

Second time call up Q. Gorniak put in an impressive showing as well, she was eager to get on the ice as the solo player waiting on the bench as a result of late arrivals due to heavy traffic getting into the Island.

S. Chow, G. Costa, E. Gorniak, Q. Gorniak, Gurt, S. Kendall, L. Neary, B. Rumsey, M. Stuetz and E. Wiesner left everything out there and were all smiles despite the outcome!

U12AA vs STJ Academy

The U12AA team didn’t let the long drive to Northern Virginia or a slightly short bench stop them from posting a 3-2 over St. James Saturday evening. It was great all-around team effort with the forwards hustling on the back check to the defense pinching in at the right time to keep the puck in the St. James end.

R. Swidorski came up with several key saves while posting 21 saves in the win. Including some quality scoring chances by St. James in the final minutes with their goaltender pulled.

M. Leonard and P. Shore both finished with a goal and an assist each while helping drive the Lady Patriots’ possession game in the St. James end. Shore’s goal was a result of great work deep in the St. James end. As the puck came out to her below the goal line, she made a nice move to get around a St. James player and scored from close range. M. Leonards’ goal came from a turnover near the Lady Patriot blue line. She skated wide down the right wing side before letting off a shot from the circle that found the far side of the net.

K. Boland and A. Duncan did a great job as the utility players in the game. As they both had their share of extra forward and defensive pairing duties.
