Game Recaps
Weekend of January 2022

U10 vs Little Flyers

In an early morning Willison sibling matchup, the 10UA Patriots took on the in-house Blackhawks with a tight start. The first period saw strong neutral zone play by both teams with A. Frantz and P. Rogers standing strong on the blue lines. Superior back checking by the Patriots shut down numerous Blackhawk attempts to gain the zone, ending the period in a stalemate. The second period started off scoring with the Blackhawks adding a tally first. Less than a minute later, D. Thomas scored off a centering feed from O. Connors and rebound from A. Willison. 1-1 heading into the third caught the Patriots flat-footed in the neutral zone, leaving P. Hartz to battle hard making several saves to keep the game tight. Backchecking from T. Fistick allowed V. Naticchione and K. Smoyer to clear the zone and prevent multiple scoring opportunities. Ultimately, the Patriots allowed 3 more Blackhawk goals to drop the game 4-1.

Patriots look to turn this loss into a learning opportunity in how important it is to keep your feet moving and battle for every puck heading into next weekend's double-header.
Most Vocal: D. Thomas

Hardest worker: A. Willison and O. Connors

U8 vs In House Devils

U8 woke up early for an in-house match-up against the Devils. A slow start allowed E. Sprague to brick-wall multiple Devils scoring opportunities. Strong breakout passing from S. Richards and E. Asterito provided A. Myers and A. Pinchuk the opportunity to drive the puck to the net, causing havoc for the Devil's defense. Strong passing by P. Hartz and L. Thomas gave way to several Patriot goals as S. Bambi and D. Strobel stood strong in front of the Devils net-minder picking up rebound opportunities. R. Lafratta and J. Plante played strong along the boards to force turnovers and took away space from the Devils. In the end, U8 defeated the Devils with their outstanding team play!

U12 A vs PHL Liberties

After some early January game cancellations, the 12A squad was back in action against the Philadelphia Liberties at the Flyers Training Center this past Saturday and the Skyland Lady Kings on Sunday. It was an up and down weekend for the girls as they defeated the Liberties by a score of 7-0 and then were defeated by the Lady Kings by the exact 0-7 score.

Against the Liberties, with her first goal as a Lady Patriot, K. Lang opened the scoring with a beautiful, hard wrist shot from the slot to make it 1-0. The Patriots would add 3 more in the first period off goals from E. Mays, C. North, and A. Richards.

In the second period, the Patriots displayed great positioning and movement up ice which led to a goal by E. Kremser. More continued forechecking and cycling in the offensive zone brought about two more goals from C. North and E. Mays en route to a 7-0 win. M. Stahl was steadfast in goal earning her 3rd shutout of the season.

U12 A vs Skyland Kings

An early wake up call on Sunday had the Patriots traveling to Northern NJ to face the very quick Skyland Lady Kings. The speed of the Lady Kings kept the Lady Patriots hemmed in their zone for a majority of the first period which lead to 3 Lady Kings goals. As the game progressed, the Lady Patriots started to match the Kings speed and started to get some chances up ice as well as establish a good forecheck. Great drives up ice by the defense of Q. Gorniak, A, Richards, H. Meyers, and E. Kremser led to some good chances by the Patriots. A. Micciche, C. North, and E. Mays continued to forecheck hard and created multiple opportunities. In the end, the Patriots could't get on the board and were turned away with a 7-0 loss to the Kings. M. Stahl faced 37 quality shots and continued her stellar play in net for the Patriots.

The 12A squad looks forward to hosting the Princeton Youth girls team this Saturday and then travels to face off against league rivals the Little Flyers on Sunday.
