Game Recaps Weekend of February 2022

U10 vs Jr Flyers

An unusual location and time did not stop the U10 squad from bringing their all to a matchup against the JR Flyers Saturday evening at Revolution Ice Gardens. In the second game of the day, the Patriots came out strong, ready to leave it all out on the ice. In a weekend full of shake-ups, the offensive core fought adversity in the first two periods, trying out different pairings and positions while the defense added players from offense to round out the lines. Requiring strong teamwork to make the changes work, the Patriots did not miss a beat, landing on the scoreboard first! Strong defensive plays by A. Frantz and V. Naticchione lead to prime rushes through the neutral zone, catching the JR Flyers off their marks. Holding the offensive blue line tight, S. Carter and K. Smoyer added several strong point shots and providing rebound opportunities for C. Schultz, A. Yarborough and A. Bucci to create havoc for the JR. Flyers netminder. P. Rogers proved to be the definition of utility player as she stepped out of the net, off offense and into her role as a strong defenseman for this battle. The third period again saw another round of line changes as A. Willison, D. Thomas and O. Connors were added to the defensive core. It only took a quick refresher for these three to easily step into their new roles for the period. P. Hartz battled through all the changes to hold the JR Flyers to one lone goal as the Patriots came away with the win.

Most Vocal- P. Rogers

Hardest worker- D. Thomas

U10 vs NJ Colonials

U10 traveled to NJ for a mid-morning match against the top team in the league, the New Jersey Colonials. U10 came out strong with solid breakouts leading to productive offensive opportunities mounting numerous shots on the Colonials goaltender. Faceoff wins by C. Schultz and D. Thomas allowed for the Patriots to pack on the pressure in the offensive zone.
Defensively, A. Frantz led the charge by rushing the puck, often catching the Colonials flat footed to get the puck in deep. Holding the line tight, C. Carter and P. Rogers provided many point shots and providing support for the offense to set up their triangles. The first period ended in a 0-0 tie with P. Hartz standing on her head to turn away powerful offensive opportunities by the Colonials. The second period opened with physical play from both teams. A. Bucci battled hard, intercepting passes and backchecking hard to ensure the defense and goalie always had the needed support. O. Connors and A. Willison battled hard all over the ice making plays, forcing turnovers and tightening up the defensive play to help prevent scoring opportunities. Patriots struck first_________. Colonials rallied quickly to end the period up 2-1.
The close game led to tough battling and aggressive play by both teams. U10 never wavered from being the team showing the best sportsmanship and did not let their opponent rattle them with their aggressive play.
U10 Patriots played throughout the game with integrity for the game of hockey, their teammates, and their opponent. Led by sincere gamesmanship, the Patriots may have lost on the scoreboard but won in the forthrightness of the game. Sportsmanship lessons are essential to the game of hockey as well as in life, and the U10 squad met this adversity with grace and unification.

Most Vocal: Carter
Hardest Worker: Connors

U8 vs In House Predators

U8 Patriots woke up early for an In-house matchup against the Predators. Starting the first period strong in net was A. Pinchuk who turned away numerous scoring attempts by the Predators. Scoring was opened by P. Hartz and quickly followed by S. Bambi and E. Sprague off strong passing from D. Strobel and A. Negro. The first period was a tight battle with many rebound opportunities stifled by the Predators. The second period saw A. Negro between the pipes who brick walled the Predators in a few too many odd man rushes! Not to be out battled by the boys, the Patriots fought hard against a physical Predators team. Led by A. Meyers, the Patriots stood their ground, refusing to waver when pressed. E. Asterito and R. Lafratta forced a multitude of turn overs leading to goals by L. Thomas and S. Richards! Leading the play and the scoreboard, the third period of play allowed for S. Richards to show off her goalie skills, stopping several breakaways! J. Plante fought hard along the boards to keep the puck out of the Patriots zone. U8 saw 6 different players earn spots on the scoresheet, an outstanding display of teamwork! Although the game began to get chippy in the third, the Patriots remained calm and played Patriot hockey to end well on top of the Predators!

U8 February Freeze

U8 traveled to New Jersey for the final jamboree of the season! Over the course of the six-game jamboree, the Patriots came out fighting and ready to win each game! Passing and teamwork found that U8 far outmatched much of their competition. Every U8 Patriot played well by looking for passes, spreading out, and helping their teammates by seeking out assists over the goal when appropriate. Many U8 players offered to assist other teams who had light benches for a long day full of games-- what an excellent display of sportsmanship! In a strong showing of teamwork, many Patriots offered to play goalie as well, making it extremely difficult for opponents to mount comebacks. The final game of the jamboree allowed for the Patriots to learn key sportsmanship and life lessons, a priceless accomplishment for a young squad. Ultimately, the Patriots outscored all their opponents in the jamboree! Heading into the last few games of the season, coaching staff is excited about the growth this team has shown and look forward to seeing further displays of teamwork, comradery, and sportsmanship!
