Webmail (squirrelmail) でブラウザからメールを読んだり書いたりする．yumでインストールできる．
（環境） CentOS 5.9

設定
次のコマンドで設定メニューを表示して，設定をおこなう．
# /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
まず，メインメニュー

で，c キーを押して[Enter]．Turn color onにする．こうしておかないと，打ったコマンドが見えない．そして，10のLanguageで，Default LanguageとDefault Charsetを次のように設定する．
Language preferences
1. Default Language : ja_JP
2. Default Charset : iso-2022-jp
3. Enable lossy encoding : false
メインメニューに戻り(Return to main menu)，2のServer Settingsで，IMAP PortとSecure IMAP (TLS)を次のように設定する．

4. IMAP Server : localhost
5. IMAP Port : 993
6. Authentication type : login
7. Secure IMAP (TLS) : true
もう一度メインメニューに戻り，Save dataし，Quit．

SSLでのアクセスしか許可しないように設定．
# vi /etc/httpd/conf.d/squirrelmail.conf
で以下を追加
<Location /webmail>
SSLRequireSSL
</Location>
そして，httpd再起動
/etc/init.d/httpd restart

ログインの時だけSSLを使うには，上記「SSL - その１」の設定をおこなわず，secure_loginプラグインを使う．kindle 3のブラウザ(WebKit）は非力なので，こちらの設定のほうが快適に動作するが，メール本文は盗み読まれる可能性がある．
まず，プラグインを http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugins.php から /root/ にダウンロードし，
# cd
# wget http://www.squirrelmail.org/countdl.php?fileurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.squirrelmail.org%2Fplugins%2Fsecure_login-1.4-1.2.8.tar.gz
squirrelmail の plugin フォルダに解凍
# cd /usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/
# tar zxvf /root/secure_login-1.4-1.2.8.tar.gz
そして，設定メニューを表示して，
# /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
8. のPlugins で，secure_loginを有効にし，4. のGeneral Optionsで，16. Only secure cookies if possのtrueをFalseに変える．
そして，httpd再起動
/etc/init.d/httpd restart

メッセージの表示されるペインに，メールフォルダのドロップダウンボックスを表示するプラグイン．kindle 3では画面表示が乱れてフォルダの選択が難しいが，ドロップダウンはちゃんと表示されるので，このプラグインを入れておくとkindle 3でもフォルダ選択が確実にできるようになる．
まず，プラグインをhttp://www.squirrelmail.org/plugins.phpから/root/にダウンロードし，
# cd
# wget http://www.squirrelmail.org/countdl.php?fileurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.squirrelmail.org%2Fplugins%2Fjump_to_folder.0.3-1.2.7.tar.gz
squirrelmailのpluginフォルダに解凍
# cd /usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/
# tar zxvf /root/jump_to_folder.0.3-1.2.7.tar.gz
そして，設定メニューを表示して，
# /usr/share/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
8. のPlugins で，jump_To_folderを有効にする．
そして，httpd再起動
/etc/init.d/httpd restart
利用開始後，[オプション]-[フォルダ設定]で，
Show Jump to Folder Dropdown:
Only Show if Some Folders Collapsed:
Always Show Above Mailbox Display:
を全てyesにする．

https://サーバ名/webmail/
にアクセスするとログイン画面が出るので，メールアカウントでログインして，色々カスタマイズすればよい．
