Hebrews 11:1-3
Faith is Confident
1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
John 14:6
Jesus is Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 18:37
Testifying to The Truth
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
John 4:48
People Want Miracles to Believe
48 "Unless you people see signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe."
John 10:22-42
22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, 41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.” 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.
Acts 2:22-24
Jesus Did in Fact Perform Miracles -Which Many People Saw
22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
Do you believe in miracles?...I think to have faith, you must believe in miracles...Without believing in the Old Testament miracles and the miracles in the four gospels, I doubt if one can have a strong faith or any faith for that matter...
Faith is being confident...Faith is not the belief in something not true, but faith is the belief in Truth...Faith believes there is an Absolute Truth in the universe, and it is a Person...And His name is Jesus Christ...Faith is not about believing in things without evidence of the LORD...As one reads the four gospels about Jesus one has the choice to believe that He did many miracles, forgives others of sin, that He came from God, He was born of a virgin, He taught Twelve Disciples all about God His Father, that He died on the cross, that He resurrected after three days, and that He ascended to heaven forty days later...When one reads these things in the Bible, they have the choice to believe it as fact or as fiction...One has has choice to believe in miracles...One has to believe that Jesus is capable of doing miracles then and now, if one is a follower of His...One has to believe in miracles to believe that Jesus is who He said He is...When one has faith, they care very much about facts, the truth, and the evidence of our LORD...Believers do not ignore evidence...Evidence, Truth, and the facts of Jesus matter...The trouble I think most of us have is we would like to eliminate the miracle part of Jesus works to believe in Him, but we can't...He did many miracles, and it shows us who He is and that He did come from God, His Father...Faith needs miracles, and miracles need faith...
Jesus never said to have a blind faith and draw your conclusions about Him in that way...Jesus did say that people wanted to see miracles to believe in Him...Jesus also said that He showed us many good works...Yet, many did not believe in Him...His works of His healing miracles and other types of miracles were ignored as being a sign of God, or that He came from God...And He did many miracles...But the number of works and miracles He did still wasn't enough for some...Had He done twice as many miracles in the gospels, I am not sure how many more people would believe...I do not think if He did twice as many miracles, His followers would have doubled in number...I doubt if the number of those who did not believe and do not believe in Him would significantly change if there were a larger number of miracles in the gospels...But His believers have confidence that He did all these things that are written in the New Testament...They have confidence that Jesus is the Absolute Truth of the Universe...He taught about Truth, testified to the Truth, and said He is Truth...Believers believe that Jesus did these many wonderful and miraculous things, while the non-believers believe some or all of them are fiction...
Peter, who was with Jesus for three years as a Disciple...He saw most of these wonderful and miraculous things that Jesus did...Peter said that Jesus did miracles, signs, and wonders, which many eyewitnesses saw...And because many people saw these things they know the truth about Him...But He was handed over to the Sanhedrin, which was a part of God's Plan...And wicked men put Him to death, by nailing Him to a cross...but God raised Him from the dead, because it is impossible for death to keep a hold on this Man, who is the Messiah...
Faith, when we think about it, has to believe in miracles...We cannot get around that fact, nor should we want to...If God has a Son, I should expect Him to do miracles...After all God is Divine, so wouldn't His Son be...By faith we understand that God formed the universe at His command...That is and was a miracle...He created the universe out of nothing...Faith is confident that Jesus' miracles happened, and that miracles do happen...Faith is very much in believing that miracles do happen...Faith is confident that miracles still can happen...
