John 14:6-7
Jesus is the Truth, the Way, and the Life and the Only Way to God
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Luke 5:17-26
Jesus Forgives Others
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick. 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
John 4:21-26
Jesus Says He is the Messiah
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
The Pharisees were not particularly impressed with Jesus and His teachings...It might be they had heard other Rabbis teach similar to Him...Yet, He was and is different...I might say His teachings are different, but for those to say His teachings were not different, then one must believe He was and is something of importance and One who somehow who had a mystique authority...And like many people, some do not believe He can forgive people of their sins...The Pharisees and the teachers of the law thought to themselves, “Who is this Fellow who speaks blasphemy?...Who can forgive sins but God alone?”...
And for different reasons, and starting on the forgiving others of their sins. Jesus is different, because He did go around forgiving people of their different sins...How many people, do you know that go around forgiving people of their sins against other people, and forgiving others of their sins against God?...Who can do this?...The Pharisee way of thinking, says only God can do this...So this is different, especially to the Pharisees and teachers of the law...He said He is the Way to God and no one comes to the Father, except through Him...How many people have you heard say this?...He invited people to the Great Banquet, to the Kingdom of God, because He is the Way to God...He dwelt among us as if He had not sinned and was a Man of Righteousness...He taught as if He were the Messiah, because He is the Messiah...Jesus would and did deliver people from their sins, from their sicknesses, and even delivered people from their deaths to show that He was the Messiah...In these cases and situations, He was different from any other man who ever walked the earth...
