Deuteronomy 4:29
Seek the LORD
29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
LORD's Prayer
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
John 3:1-21
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
9 "How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.
10 "You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? 11 I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
Believers are to seek the LORD with their heart's and their souls...I think that as we seek the LORD, some also do this seeking with a great curiosity...There is a curiosity in many people with faith...
God created us with this curiosity to seek Him with the intimacy of our hearts and souls...And I think He wants us to ask the curious questions like why are we here, what are the eternities, and what actually is the purpose of life...We often may think that God is more unknown to us than known...But is in these unknown moments that we curiously seek an answer to that mystery of the unknown, there is this great hope...And sometimes in that hope comes faith...For if knew everything about God, or to say we know God one hundred percent, we would not seek Him...We would not need to...In this curious mystery about the unknown maybe one of the reasons we will always seek Him...But this type of seeking takes much intellect as we try to learn as much as one can about the Mysterious One, who knows all things...
There was a Pharisee once with a curious faith...And yet, being a Pharisee he sought out Jesus, because of his curiosity...Nicodemus himself was a wise rabbi and teacher of Israel...His curious faith compelled him to go see the Man that was doing special things in his town and the nearby villages...Nicodemus wanted to see for himself if all that he heard was really true about this Man...Nicodemus had seen Him perform some of His miraculous signs and miracles...And when Nicodemus saw these miracles, he knew God was with him...
Yet, there was more mystery about this Great Man...The great and most interesting stories about Jesus were probably gaining much traction, when Nicodemus went to see Him...His his healings, his eating and drinking with outcasts were somehow increasing His popularity...His even choosing Twelve Disciples, of four, who were unschooled fisherman and one was a tax collector...It was not uncommon to see Him with sinners...And Nicodemus had probably heard about His remarkable and authoritative teachings...So the Pharisee Nicodemus would seek out Jesus at night...His curious faith made him seek out the One whom other Pharisees did not like and would later try to kill...Nicodemus has a great conversation with Jesus and has questions, in his curiosity to learn more about the One that he has seen and heard so much about each day...Jesus tells Nicodemus it is not His miracles over the Natural Laws that make the miracles great...There is even more to the wind and how and why it blows than we ever will know...It is how we think on earth about the Spirituality of things and how we think about the eternities that give the miracles their importance...God made us in His Image...And He is Spirit...Man is body and mind, but much more...We too, have an indwelt Holy Spirit...We have this particular connection with Him...We should use our curiosity to learn about it, work with it. maybe study these things, like the Holy Spirit...Jesus' miracles proved to Nicodemus there is Something or Someone larger than man and this physical world...The soul wants to know more about the Father and who created it...The soul is restless for God, and it curiously seeks Him...St. Augustine said it this way,"You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You."...God wants us to have a relationship with us...That is one of the reasons Jesus constantly calls Him Father and teaches us in the LORD's prayer to call Him Father...It is more about this relationship and love than it is about intellect...
Jesus tells Nicodemus that God LOVES the world...He did not send Jesus to destroy the world or to punish us...He did not send His Son to condemn us...He sent His Son to save us...This is an ct of LOVE...One does not have to be full of intellect to receive Him, we have to be full of love to receive Him...For then Jesus and His Father will be in our hearts...And when believe that He is the Messiah, and that God sent Him, then He will give us eternal life...
