Hebrews 13:8
Jesus the Same
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Mark 7:20-23
Man Has Some Evil Thoughts
20 He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' 21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "
Isaiah 55:8
God's Thoughts Are Different from Man's Thoughts
8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD.
John 4:25-26
Jesus Admits He is the Messiah
25 The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." 26 Then Jesus declared, "I, the one speaking to you--I am he."
Mark 14:61-62
Jesus Admits He is the Son of God
61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" 62 "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Matthew 21:6-11
Praise to the Son of David
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”
11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
Luke 20:1-8
The Authority of Jesus Questioned
1 One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him. 2 “Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said. “Who gave you this authority?”
3 He replied, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me: 4 John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin?”
5 They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Why didn't you believe him?’ 6 But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.”
7 So they answered, “We don’t know where it was from.”
8 Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
Matthew 26:1-5
The Chief Priests Plot to Kill Jesus
1 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 “As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 5 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”
Matthew 27:20-23
Crucify the Son of David
20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor.
“Barabbas,” they answered.
22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked.
They all answered, “Crucify him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
Jesus and what He does and thinks is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow...His thoughts and His ways are not the same as man's...Jesus teaches us that man sometimes have evil, sexual immoral, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly type thoughts...These are thoughts on our minds and they change from day to day and month to month...They change as we age and change as we change our environments...How we as man thinks is sometimes changing and abrupt...
A good example of man's thoughts changing is when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday on a donkey...All four gospel authors write about this Triumphal Entry into the city of David on a young donkey...The large crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed shouted am explanation of Praise to the Son of David...Others praised God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen Him do (Luke 19:37)...Those seeing Him entering laid down palm leaves and seemed to recognize His importance, His authority, and His rightful place on earth and in heaven...Many must think now He is the Messiah, the Son of David -just like He told the Samaritan woman at the well...
But as the week progresses the crowd changes...Jesus' authority is questioned...His Rightful Day of Praise seems to have quickly faded by groups of nonbelievers...There is even a plot to kill Him by the chief priests and elders...
So the week that started off with the large crowd saying Praise to Him, had quickly ended with wicked thoughts of evil to now kill Him...He was different and popular, and quite unique...With the ability to heal people and do miracles...He taught everyday about God and His Kingdom...God was the central focus of His ministry...He talked about His special relationship with God...He said He was the Messiah and the Son of the Blessed One...He did come to us in the name of the LORD, and in the name of God as the crowd had earlier said...And because of these things the Jewish leaders wished Him dead...
Jesus had come to us in the Person of the Messiah, and many failed to recognize Him...And because man can change his mind, the crowd behind Him was turning against Him...On the night of His arrest He lost all of the large crowd support and they now wanted Him crucified...Such are the changing thoughts of man...The One who had just made such an unforgettable entry into His City, was now an unpopular criminal soon to be hung on a cross...He never mislead these large crowds, if you believe He is the Messiah...If you do not believe He is the Messiah, you were mislead and He is a liar...
