Romans 1:18-25
The Mystery of Creation
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
John 1:1-14
The Word Becomes Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 4:24-26
Jesus Tells the Samaritan Woman that He is the Messiah
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
Isaiah 40:21-26
God Knows the Names of the Stars
21 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
23 He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.
24 No sooner are they planted,
no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root in the ground,
than he blows on them and they wither,
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.
25 “To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.
Psalm 19:1-6
The Heavens Declare God's Glory
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
One thing we do know is that we have a universe and the planet earth with people on it...So something created the universe and the planets...Something created nature and the Laws of Nature...The universe is here and we are here, along with many other living different creatures...So since the universe is here and we are here, how does one go about explaining this?...How did the universe and man get here?...Can random chance bring about not only life with the ability to sustain itself with reproduction, but can pure chance also bring about a curious-purpose driven Spiritual life (who searches for meaning), with a selected DNA structure?...Why does man search the stars and universe?...What is man wanting to find?...
If one believes in the creation story, and that we have a purposely designed world, then that makes one have to think that there is a Grand Designer behind this act that caused creation...So when St. Paul wrote to the Romans that creation is here for all to see, and that the designed world around us and that is living in it, in itself infuses a Creator belief, and at the same time produces a mystery...Nature infuses a Grand Designer...There are certain mathematical laws indwelt in nature...How did and does nature have consistent laws, called the Laws of Nature?...All the things that are necessary for man to live, as well as the other creatures and plant life to live - exist on earth...Is our existence and the other living creatures here only by chance?...
To further believe as St. John wrote of Jesus as the Word, and Jesus as The Logos, who was with God from the very beginning of everything -then we can believe as believers that creation is here for a purpose, and the One whom all things are made is the Most Profound Mystery in Life...That our Creator is Spirit and we need to worship God in Spirit and in Truth, furthers this Great Mystery...Why does man believe in the Spiritual?...Why are we purpose driven?...And the very fact that Jesus came and dwelt with us, taught us, did many miracles, claimed He was the Messiah, and died on the cross, and then resurrected allows one (if one is a believer) to see both the history and mystery of God...These happenings and events and the life of Jesus shed a different Light on our own lives...If we believe that there is both this history and this mystery of Jesus, then we better see Him and what He did...We can better see the resurrection as a reason to worship God, and to give Him glory, as well as worship the One who came from God and is full of Grace and Truth...We better see how creation was formed out of the Great Mystery of God...We search the stars for the One who created them and knows each of them by name...The heavens declare His Glory and the Glory of His Creation...
