School Counselors are Master's Level Trained Educators equipped with the skills, knowledge and expertise to support and develop students' Academic, Career and Social/Emotional Development.
School Counselors Cannot REPLACE an Outside Therapist
School Nurses don't fix a broken bone or do surgery but can give a band-aid or ice pack. School Counselors are the same.
School Counseling certification is not the same as a mental health license.
School Counselors offer short term solution focused individual meetings in order to assist with school related issues.
School Counselors see lots of students and we provide support but we can't provide it long term.
Primary doctors and specialists provide long term care.
We're like a band-aid. We triage for the here and now like the ER.
The purpose of the Counseling Department, and in accordance with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), is to offer a comprehensive developmental school counseling program by working with school staff, families, and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby our students can achieve academic success.
