◎Abstract / 要旨:
The talk examines how the Tibetan women-in-exile in India defied the rhetoric of vulnerable refugees and engaged in the political act of heritage preservation in exile for cultural continuity, identity-making, and nation-building. Looking at heritage through a gendered lens, the talk explores the ways in which Tibetan women-in-exile have contributed to the preservation, enactment, and reproduction of heritage in exile while negotiating multiple challenges encountered due to their legal status. How do Tibetan women contribute to the preservation of heritage and nation-building in exile? The talk attempts to answer the question by drawing from interviews with Tibetan women and men in exile in India and engaging with existing literature.
