START SEATED IN A CIRCLE
Would you rather be able to only whisper or only be able to only shout?
Why?
Would you rather be President if the United States or the first person on Mars? Why?
Can anyone name all the GOTR names?
Last weeks goal:
What does it mean to have confidence in ourselves and activate our Star Power?
Today's goal is:
To practice finding our happy pace in running and life.
Stand in a circle
Once you toss the bean bag, you will step back and do jumping jacks.
Round 1 (FAST)
Toss as FAST as you can
Once you have thrown the bean bag, step back and do jumping jacks as FAST as you can.
How did it feel to go as FAST as possible?
When has there been a time in your life when if felt like things were just going too fast?
Round 2 (SLOW)
Toss as SLOW as you can
Once you have thrown the bean bag, step back and do jumping jacks as SLOW as you can.
How did it feel to go as SLOW as possible?
When has there been a time in your life when it felt like things were just going at a snail's pace? Or when you weren't challenging yourself at all?
Round 3
Toss at a HAPPY PACE, one that is not so fast that we get frustrated or one so slow that we get bored.
Once you have thrown the bean bag, step back and do jumping jacks at a pace that feels good to you.
How did it feel to go at a Happy Pace?
When has there been a time in your life when if felt like things were going at a happy pace, not too fast, not too slow --and were a good challenge?
"When you feel like the pace of life is too fast and you're starting to feel overwhelmened or tired, it's OK to take a break and slow down. This helps us come back to our happy pace and activate our Star Power -- by doing what feels good for us and taking care of our star. "
Journal (Page 4) -
Everyone's happy pace is different. Your happy pace is as unique as you, so there is no need to compare or keep up with anyone else!
Your happy pace can change. It can change as you grow stronger, or based on how you feel that day.
There are different ways to find your happy pace. You can ask: Is this too easy, too hard, or just right? Can I talk while I move? Can I keep up this pace for at least a lap or two?
Star Tag
Set up 4 cones, creating a space of approx. 30 by 30 feet, creating boundaries.
Brainstorm with the team what might cloud their star and make them feel uncomfortable?
We are going to play TAG. You are all STARS. The person who is IT is the CLOUD. When the cloud touches you, you will freeze. To become unfrozen, you must be tagged by another star AND do 5 STAR JUMPS.
How did it feel when someone helped you unfreeze?
How did it feel when you unfroze someone?
We all have times when clouds cover our Star Power. This season, we will talk about the tools we can use to activate our Star Power and be ourselves.
"As we just discovered, it's important to find our happy pace in life. It's also important to find our happy pace as we prepare for and complete our 5k! To grow stronger and keep moving, it will be important for us to find the right pace for each of us! Let's experiment with finding our happy pace before we start laps today.
Round 1: (SLOW) walk slowly Like really SLOW.. slower than walking
Does this feel like a speed you would want to keep completing laps at?
Round 2: Run as FAST as you can
How many laps do you think you could complete at this pace?
Round 3 Happy Pace
Find your Happy Pace and complete your laps.
Think about it:
When are times when you feel like life is going too fast?
How do you find your happy place in life?
Girls on the run is so much fun!
