Character growth in Ghosts of Savannah is measured by more than mechanical advancement.
While your character becomes more capable over time, their true journey is defined by the stories they tell, the relationships they build, and the place they earn within Savannah's living world.
Every character develops through three independent paths that represent personal mastery, reputation, and responsibility.
Advancing in one path does not automatically advance the others.

Experience - Personal Growth & Skill - What can my character do?
Resonance - Reputation & Influence - What mark has my character left upon Savannah?
Role - Responsibility & Service - How does my character serve their community?
These paths work together but remain independent. Advancing in one does not automatically advance the others.
“What can my character do?”
Experience reflects your character's personal mastery, training, and mechanical advancement.
As you actively participate in Ghosts of Savannah, your HUD tracks your progress toward the next Experience Level. As your character gains experience, they become more capable, unlock higher Ability Ranks, and earn Advancement Points to improve their core attributes.
Experience measures what your character is capable of, regardless of their reputation or organizational role.
"What mark has my character left upon Savannah?"
Resonance reflects the lasting influence your character has upon the city.
It grows through meaningful roleplay, relationships, achievements, and contributions to Savannah's ongoing story. Unlike Experience, Resonance is not about personal power, it represents how your character is remembered by the people, places, and supernatural forces that call Savannah home.
“How does my character serve?”
Role represents the positions of trust and responsibility your character earns within Savannah. Most Roles exist within the city's organizations, though independent characters may also become trusted mentors, allies, and influential figures through their own journeys.
As characters earn the confidence of their peers, opportunities may arise to mentor others, guide their communities, organize roleplay, and help shape the future of their faction or the city itself.
Role is not a measure of power, it is a reflection of service, leadership, and stewardship.

Organizations & Independent Paths
Many characters find purpose within one of Savannah's organizations, where they build relationships, take on Roles, and help shape the future of their community.
Some remain independent, forging their own path outside the established factions. These characters are no less a part of Savannah's story. They build their own alliances, pursue their own goals, and leave their mark upon the city in different ways.
Whether your character joins an organization or remains independent, the three paths of Experience, Resonance, and Role continue to shape their journey. While many Roles exist within organizations, independent characters may also earn positions of trust, responsibility, and recognition through the stories they create.

There is no single path to success in Ghosts of Savannah.
Some characters pursue mastery of their abilities. Others become well-known figures whose names carry weight throughout the city. Some choose positions of leadership, while others remain independent and forge their own path.
Every journey is different.
Whether your character becomes a respected elder, a renowned investigator, a trusted mentor, or simply someone whose story leaves a lasting impression, each path contributes to the living history of Savannah.
