Stone Tape Theory is the speculation that ghosts and hauntings are analogous to tape recordings and that mental impressions during emotional or traumatic events can be projected in the form of energy, "recorded" onto rocks and spaces, and "replayed" under certain conditions
The ley lines and sacred geometry have made Savannah a city, where history and emotions are recorded within the very earth. Events of great significance, whether joy or suffering, have imprinted on the energy here, creating a vast, layered spiritual resonance. Over time, Savannah became a beacon for supernatural entities, particularly ghosts who remain bound to the sites of their lives or deaths. From the Native American burial grounds to the mass graves of slaves and the Yellow Fever cemeteries, the city's past is woven with an intricate tapestry of spirits.
Oglethorpe and the Freemasons were aware that they were creating a place where the supernatural might thrive. Many believe this is why Freemasonic symbols are often found subtly carved or built into the architecture, serving as wards and protections against malignant forces. For some Freemasons, the spiritual framework also provided a means to tap into these energies, connecting with and sometimes controlling the restless spirits bound to the ley lines and geometry of the city.
Locations throughout Savannah are “Resonance Points,” where the residence can commune with spirits or experience echoes of the past. (Notecards can be found around the sim that could trigger scenes where glimpses of traumatic moments from Savannah’s history can be roleplayed, depending on the race of the player).
Physical Objects: Certain objects, stones from an old church, a brick from an ancient prison, relics from tragic sites, could act as “recordings” of traumatic events. Characters might be haunted simply by proximity to these items or find that carrying them grants visions of the past.
Ghostly Memories: The spirits are bound to re-enact the trauma associated with specific locations. Characters witnessing these replays might decipher patterns or clues to their origins, which could reveal hidden truths about the city’s dark history.
Clues to the Past: Certain events may only be accessible to Seer Witches or Hunters with specific tools, offering clues for players seeking answers.
Powerful, Visible Bursts: Major events, often tied to tragedies, might randomly replay in powerful manifestations. Such occurrences may distort reality, creating dangerous or disorienting conditions that affect both players and NPCs alike.
Fragmented Echoes: Some ghost encounters might only offer fragments of a story, leaving players to piece together multiple encounters to fully understand the underlying events. For example, hearing ghostly whispers about betrayal near a historic tavern or seeing spectral duels in certain squares could hint at a larger story about Savannah’s violent past.
Intertwined Lives and Deaths: Many of the city’s spirits might be connected to one another, victims of the same massacre, former friends or rivals, or members of the same family line. Each ghost holds a piece of the overall mystery, encouraging players to seek them out to understand Savannah’s spectral history fully.
