Magic in Savannah is an intricate and multifaceted force, shaped by the city’s layered history, supernatural influences, and cultural diversity. It is not a single, universal power but rather a collection of disciplines, traditions, and practices that draw upon the energies of the world and beyond. These energies are influenced by the Triad of Gaia, Lilith, and Hastur, and Savannah itself, steeped in death, tragedy, and the supernatural, acts as a powerful nexus for magical activity.
Each Race that can manipulate telluric energy has a set of skills that can be used in roleplay.
Each race has a brief description of its purpose and use, but the players have creative freedom
in regards of how that purpose and use is achieved (looks, ingredients, movements, gestures, etc.)
This information can be found in the application for each race.
Natural Magic
Practiced by Witches
Draws from nature, the elements, ghosts, and the cycles of life and death.
Includes herbalism, spiritualism, elemental control, healing, and animal communication.
Often seen as a force of balance and endurance, but can be destructive, reflecting Gaia’s and Lillith dual nature.
Blood Magic
A dark and powerful magic fueled by the life essence of blood mixed with energy from Carcosa.
Practiced by the Strix, who use it to enhance their powers, bind others, or manipulate life and death.
Highly taboo, often associated with Hastur’s influence, as it can corrupt the practitioner with promises of power and immortality.
Science Constructs
The Freemasons approach Telluric energy with a scientific lens, attempting to understand and manipulate the city’s energies through reason and experimentation.
Includes alchemy, geomancy, and energy manipulation.
Their attempts to “tame” the energy often lead to unintended consequences.
Magic as Energy: Magic is a manifestation of the ley lines (the world’s natural energies). The emotional residue of humanity or the influence of otherworldly forces would influence the energy from the leylines, affecting the real world. Savannah’s unique “stone tape” nature records and amplifies these energies, making the city a hotspot for magical practice.
Conduits of Power: Magic in Savannah is channeled through rituals, artifacts, blood, nature, spirits, and personal will. It is innate and learned, accessible through talent, lineage, and meticulous study.
Moral Ambiguity: Magic is a tool, neither inherently good nor evil. Its use reflects the intentions of the practitioner, though certain types of magic, such as blood magic, are more prone to corruption.
