On November 19th, the EHS Scholars Bowl team competed at Leoti, Kansas, and won 3rd place. Coach Iman said, “During this season, the team has worked better together and it has achieved good results due to its high scores.” He concluded with his ultimate goal for the season, “I'd like to see us ending up going to state.”
David Chapman, a junior at Elkhart High School, was one of the main characters in the Beetlejuice Junior production last weekend. His favorite part of the show was the song Say My Name. When asked how he felt the production went, he used a quote from the production, “An emotional roller coaster, but we got through it.” He specifically enjoyed working with Garrett Howe and mentioned how hard it was to memorize all of his lines for the show. But, when asked about all the time and dedication put in, he said, “The reward of the show was good and I got to see my father.”
Nayeli Alvarado, a sophomore student who was also a lead character, said “I played as Lydia Deetz, one of the main cast of characters. The Beetlejuice play was pretty decent. It pretty much took me the entire thing to memorize my lines. I enjoyed myself to an extent.”

Mrs. Carrillo, an Elkhart, Kansas native, went to OPSU. While in college, she majored in business education and also got a masters degree from FHSU. Her masters is in English as a Second Language. Her mom motivated her to become a teacher, she is her biggest inspiration. When outside of school, she spends time researching different methods to teach and different methods she can use when coaching. One of her long time goals as a teacher is to maybe become a counselor in the future. Over time, she sees herself continuing to be a math teacher and potentially becoming a counselor. When asked what her words of advice are, she said, “For everyone to look out for each other and help each other. As far as staff goes, they should be helping each other and having each other's backs. Working together helps make the school a more positive place: especially when they're out to help each other, instead of out to get each other.”
Emma Maltbie, a senior at Elkhart High School, is passionate about her dogs and family. After graduation, she plans to become a radiology technician, that's all she has planned for now. She will go with the flow from there. Her high school experience has shaped her worldview to not take things so seriously. One thing she wishes she could change about Elkhart High School is the new cell phone policy because she misses her phone. After high school, she hopes to gain friends, and a college degree, and make a lot of money. Fun fact about Emma, one dance move she does when no one is looking is dabbing and doing the griddy.
Due to Thanksgiving next week, the Doric Theater will be closed, so here is a list of popular Thanksgiving movies to watch!
The first Thanksgiving movie is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” This movie is about a man who tries to travel to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife and kids, but unfortunately his flight returns to a distant city in Kansas because of a freak snowstorm. The second movie is “Home for the Holidays,” which is about a woman who had a teenage daughter who opts out of Thanksgiving. She traveled to her childhood home for an explosive holiday dinner with her dysfunctional family.
Of course, the third movie is “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” Peppermint Patty invites everyone to Charlie Brown’s for Thanksgiving, even though it’s to see his grandmother. Snoopy decided to cook his own cooking recipe for Thanksgiving dinner. Another movie we recommend to watch on Thanksgiving break is “The Great Turkey Town Miracle.” This movie is about an unemployed man who has to get four thousand dollars to keep his new job and keep his family together.
Finally, the last movie recommendation for the holiday break is “What’s Cooking?” The film is about four families of different ethnicities coming together for a tasty Thanksgiving dinner which will transport you to four different worlds and bring you back home again. The Cat Chronicles wishes you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!!

On November 13th, Mrs. Shrauner’s art class went to Amarillo, Texas, to Cadillac Ranch. They left early in the morning and stopped in Dumas to get spray paint. Once they made it, they had time to spray paint the cars at Cadillac Ranch and the ground they were allowed to paint. Then, they went to The Museum of Art where they got an in depth tour of the art displays they had written a presentation about. They got to make a small craft in one of the museum's classrooms. Senior Holly Hollingsworth said her favorite part about the trip was, “getting to be artistic, spray painting the cars and getting to visit the Museum of Art.”
