The Doric Theatre finally presents the first Christmas movies for this year. Unfortunately the movies are subject to change, but right now here are the movies of the week. “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," showing December 4th to December 7th. It is about six siblings who have a reputation for being the worst children in the world. However, when they take over representing the local church during the holidays, they are able to teach a shocked community the true meaning of Christmas. This film is perfect for the holidays. The second movie is “Here," showing the 11th and 12th of December. It is a traditional movie which tells a story about families and the special place they inhabit; sharing in love, loss, laughter, and life.

Camila Garcia, a student at Elkhart High school, finds her strengths most when it comes to work or school. She always has to process and make time, so she can work on her work. She manages her time between school, extracurricular activities, and other commitments by just going with the flow. She wants to go to college at Garden City Community College to prepare for either K State or Fort Hays State University. She said the skills she has developed in high school have helped her succeed in the real world. By joining a lot of extra activities, it has helped her be less bashful when she messes up and it has made her not care what people think of her. If she could have any superpower, she would want to have speed; so she can get her homework done faster; or be a mind reader because she is very nosey and wants to know what people are thinking.

Originally from Lake of the Ozarks, Mrs. Shrauner has been in Elkhart for twenty years. She has a bachelors of fine arts from William Woods University in studio art and art history, along with a masters from Fort Hays State University in education. She isn’t stopping there, as she is currently working on her masters in art history also from Fort Hays State University. When asked how she sees herself growing within our school, she said, “I can’t imagine teaching anything but art because I really love it, but I am very passionate about how students learn best and creating an environment where they feel safe and they can learn. If there was a way to help others embrace that, I would be so happy to help create that energy.”
When she was younger, she wanted to be a marine biologist, but it turns out science doesn't intrigue her as much as art does. She said, “When I was in college getting my bachelor's degree, I wanted to go into art restoration and be a nerd in the basement of a museum where I would restore old paintings.” When asked if she wasn’t an art teacher what she would do, she said, “I think I would still be an art teacher. I would own a big, old, musty bookstore with a coffee shop. And lots of plants.” She then added, “And I would sit on a couch and hold a fat cat.”
Her long term goal for herself in the future, “when she is old and crusty” as she says, she will, “Teach college level instead of high school level, so I can mostly work from home, travel, be in a cabin in the mountains and work from my computer.” As for her goals for Elkhart High School, she has really big hopes and plans for growing the art department, so there's something for everybody. Her advice for students and staff is, “Show up, be present, and create a space and a culture you love and you really, truly, enjoy being in.”
The Chili Feed was held on December 3rd, 2024, at the new high school gym. Many families and community members came to support the kids and teams as they were introduced one by one. They started with middle school sports, introducing two scholars bowl teams next, then the basketball teams, and finally the high school cheerleaders.
Seven senior basketball boys competed against three senior girls in a free throw competition. After ties, the senior boys won pizza for their team.
After the game was finished, everyone headed to grab a bowl of chili with an option of crackers and shredded cheese.
