Elkhart Wildcats Victory
On April 8th, the Elkhart Wildcats faced off against the Sublette Larks in Sublette, securing victories in both games with final scores of 9-5 and 17-4.
With this impressive performance, the Wildcats now hold a flawless 9-0 record.
Elkhart Lady Cats Game Update
On Tuesday, April 15th, the Elkhart Lady Cats played in Lakin. Unfortunately, they were run-ruled in both games.
Wildcats Show Grit at Pre Hi-Plains Track Meet
The Elkhart Wildcats traveled to Sublette on Tuesday to compete against league opponents in the Pre Hi-Plains Track and Field meet. While the team gave a strong effort, they ultimately finished last overall.
Despite the team result, Baylor Childress delivered a standout individual performance, impressing by Milesplit standards with an impressive discus throw of 150-1.
Wildcat Varsity Golf Shines in Lakin
This past week, the Wildcat varsity golf team traveled to Lakin, Kansas, delivering an impressive performance that earned them the team runner-up title.
Individually, several players stood out with strong finishes:
Bodie Higgins secured 2nd place, finishing 4 over.
Murray Houtz placed 6th, finishing 9 over.
Gavin Schumacher claimed 10th place, finishing 14 over.
Joe Buffington finished 16th, shooting 24 over.
Carlos DeHerrera landed in 24th place, finishing 37 over.
Grady Jones rounded out the team in 25th place, finishing 38 over.
This week, Cat Chronicles will be presenting movies at the Doric Theater.

We have had a lot of activities going on! Monday, there was HS varsity golf at Lakin, track at Sublette and our FFA officers went to the district banquet. We also had the board meeting for the month. Tuesday, baseball and softball headed to Lakin. HPL art headed to FHSU Wednesday, along with YEC State through Thursday. Thursday was also the Glenn Gunningham Relays here at Elkhart. Easter break is here! No school Friday or Monday. As we look ahead, on 4/22 baseball faces Texhoma/Goodwell and track going to Scott City. EHS will be having the EHS MAD DAY on 4/23 and on 4/24 baseball plays Springfield. To wrap up the week, softball faces Johnson on 4/25.
Senior Spotlight: Murray Houtz
This week’s senior spotlight shines on Murray Houtz!
Murray’s favorite teacher throughout high school has been Mr. Koonce, and his most memorable class was his freshman-year strength training course. One of his greatest high school moments was winning the league championship in basketball during his freshman year—a victory he’ll always cherish.
Looking ahead, Murray plans to attend Hays Tech, where he will pursue a career in Electrical Technology. As he reflects on his high school experience, his senior year stands out as his favorite.
This week, we’re highlighting Ms. Liz, a dedicated and compassionate educator.
Miss Liz has been a proud resident of Elkhart for the past eight years and has truly embraced the community. She joined the school six years ago and has never looked back, finding deep fulfillment in her role. Her motivation stems from her own children and her passion for supporting students who need extra help.
