Wildcat Court Report
On Tuesday, February 4th the Lady Wildcats took the hard loss against the Stanton County Trojans on their home floor. The Lady Wildcats fought a tough battle playing a very competitive Lady Trojans team. Today, February 7th, the Lady Wildcats play against Rolla at home for their senior night! Saturday, February 8th the Lady wildcats will travel to Meade and play their hearts out with high hopes of beating the Lady Buffaloes.
The Elkhart Wildcats traveled to Johnson Tuesday to play against the Stanton County Trojans, but sadly did not come home with a win as they lost 56-48. The Wildcats face off against the Rolla Pirates at home for senior night Friday February 7th. Saturday the Wildcats also have a game in Fowler versus the Meade Buffaloes.
This week's teacher spotlight is Crystal Bashford. She was born and raised here in Elkhart, Kansas. She lived here for about 18 years, then moved to Richfield and lived there for 30 years. She is currently a teacher at Elkhart High School, her first year in teaching. She is also an extension agent for Morton County. Her favorite memories from this year are, “When my second-hour class all passed their baby brain test." “I also love cooking with all my students in all my classes."
This week's senior spotlight focuses on Madelyn Brewer. Her favorite teacher ever is Mrs. Otto-Siemens. Her favorite class she’s taken in high school is art. Her favorite high school moment was during art her freshman year. After high school, she plans to go to cosmetology school. Her favorite sports are cheer and volleyball, which she’s done throughout her enitre high school career. She said, "her favorite year of high school has been her senior year."
This week, more bodies of the victims from the plane / helicopter crash were discovered by divers in the icy wastewaters of the Potomac River.
More recently, President Donald Trump proposed a new plan regarding Gaza, outlining his approach to peace in the region. His proposals emphasized economic aid and vast development while aiming to strengthen ties between Israel and Palestinian authorities. The plan has sparked both support and criticism from various political factions due to the plan to send people to other Arab countries.
On January 28th, 2025, the Elkhart 7th and 8th graders went to the High Plains League math competition in SWH, winning several places in the top 10! Starting off with Mental Health, Kenna Hines placed 3rd. In Geometry, Kenna Hines was 4th place and Mason Brillhart came in 9th place. In Problem Solving, Mason Brillhart came in 7th place, Kenna Hines was 8th place, and Mayerly Hernandez was 10th place. The students who were chosen to go from the 8th grade were Mason Brillhart, Jax Pando, Levi Kjergaad-thrall, and Aubriella Orosco. The 7th graders in attendance were Kenna Hines, Mayerly Hernadez, Eli Preito, and Octavian Escalera.
This week the Doric Theater Will be presenting some long-awaited films and these are:
Sonic the Hedgehog 3, showing on February 7th and 8th. This film is about a mysterious new enemy with powers unlike anything they've faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, they seek out an unlikely alliance to stop Shadow and protect the planet.
The Last Showgirl, showing on February 12th and 13th. This movie is about a seasoned chorus girl who seeks to plan her future when her show abruptly closes after 30 years in production.
Monday, February 3rd, we held a softball interest meeting. If you missed the meeting, be sure to contact Coach Mr. Flanagan. The Wildcat Cheerleaders are holding a Kitty Cheer Camp this week where they will perform at the home basketball game against Rolla Friday February 7th. This game is also Senior Night! The Wildcats turn around with another game Saturday in Fowler. Looking ahead, February 10th is our BOE meeting, starting at 7:30 PM. February 11th the Wildcats head to Turpin, Oklahoma, to face off on the court. Parent Teacher Conferences will be head Tuesday the 11th and Thursday the 13th form 4:00-8:00 PM. Friday, February 14th, the Wildcats face the Lakin Broncs at home, it is also Stucco Service Night!
