This week’s teacher spotlight is Mrs. Terri Houtz.
Mrs. Houtz has been living in Elkhart since the day she was born. She has worked in the high school for 27 years. At first, she didn’t want to be a teacher, but it slowly started to grow on her as she was doing her teacher classes. Her most favorite memory from all of her years of teaching was when the teachers made a video to the song “Schools Out For Summer” at the end of that school year.
As the Elkhart Wildcats prepare for the 2025 high school track and field season, anticipation builds around their potential performances. The Wildcats are under the guidance of Head Coach Joseph Iman for the second year in a row. One state qualifier, Baylor Childress, returns from last year. Grady Palmer also returns after he narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet in the 100 by .04 seconds. The first track meet of the year is April 8th at Stanton County. GO CATS!
March 3rd officially started spring sports for the Elkhart Wildcat's 2025 season! Baseball started practice Monday the 3rd and is highly anticipating the season opener against Forgan on March 25th at home starting at 4:00 PM.

The time is finally here to kick off the 2025 Spring softball season! The Lady Wildcats had their first practice on Monday, March 3rd. They are continuing to practice to get ready for their first game of the season. The Lady Wildcat’s first game is March 25th, at Holcomb, having high hopes to start off the season with a win!

Our USD 218 RESIST Chapter attended Take Down Tobacco Day of Advocacy in Topeka this week. They met with legislators and discussed their concerns regarding youth tobacco use and legislation pertaining to marketing and sales of tobacco products. It was a good opportunity for them to become involved in their civic duty and understand more about how our local and state governments work.
On Wednesday, FFA traveled to a Veterinary Science competition.
On Thursday, our Advanced Art Studies students hosted Elementary Art Day at EES. They will worded on various art projects with students and encouraged them to explore their creativity.
Friday ended the third quarter of the school year.

This week, as usual, we will tell you about the films which will be shown in the following days. On March 7 and 8, the film Dog Man will be presented. It is about a police officer and his faithful police dog who are injured in the line of duty, a crazy but life-saving surgery fuses them both and Dog Man is born. While Dog Man learns to accept his new identity, he must prevent the feline supervillain Petey the Cat from cloning himself and launching a crime wave.
The next film, The Brutalist, will be showing on March 12 and 13 and is about a visionary architect and his wife who flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client.
