Lady Wildcats head to the HPL Tournament
On Tuesday, January 21st the Lady Wildcats took the hard loss against Lakin in Syracuse, KS at the High Plains League Tournament. Hailee Ellis-Martinez, a Senior, led the Lady Wildcats with the most points in the game. Camila Garcia followed close behind her. Thursday, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Garden City for the second round of the High Plains League Tournament, unfortunately losing against Deerfield. The Lady Wildcats will travel to Garden City again on Saturday for the final game in the league tournament.

The Elkhart Wildcats (5-6) face off against the Deerfield Spartans (5-5) tonight, Friday January 24th at Garden City Community College at 6:00 pm. This game will be the second round of the HPL tournament. The Wildcats have already defeated Deerfield once this season 73-65. The Wildcats look to improve their record to 6-6. The Widcats will finish the weekend playing Saturday in Garden City, KS, for the third game of the HPL tournament.

This week’s teacher spotlight is the ag teacher Billy Hayes. Billy Hayes has worked for the school for almost a year now. He decided to go into education because, “I love to teach the kids how to weld and and teach them about agriculture.” His favorite memory so far is, “the time we went to horse judging and we ate at a nice steak house and Adrian ate his steak like a cave man.” When it comes to building relations with his students, he stays calm and as nice as he possibly can. His strategy behind classroom management is, “if the class gets to loud, I will ask them nicely to keep it down. If they don’t do their work, I will give them warnings.”

The Doric Theatre in Elkhart, Kansas will be showing the following films next week:
Mufasa: The Lion King, showing on January 24th and 25th. This film begins with a small sample of the family Simba now has with Nala and how, when she leaves to give birth to her new baby, Rafiki tells the story of Mufasa to Kira, the daughter of Simba and Nala.
The Fire Inside, showing on the 29th and 30th of January. This film tells the story of Claressa "T-Rex" Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan, who trained to become the first woman in her country's history to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport.
