For this week's update on baseball, senior Calvin Shackleford reflected on his high school baseball career. Shackleford's most memorable game was the Regional Championship in 2023, when Cesar Gomez led us off with a homerun on the first pitch and we went on to win. When asked what he would tell the new players on the team, Calvin said, "Just do your best in everything especially baseball because we all know how much baseball means to this town."
Senior, Kaia Orth, reflects on her senior year of softball. Concering her last year in softball, she replied, “It feels so bittersweet.” Her favorite high school memory, “When I threatened Coach Flanagan to wash out his coffee cup.” When asked what she has learned through her years in softball, she said, “You have to control your temper because it affects everyone.”
With the Wildcats' track and field season fast approaching, senior sprinter Alex Pena to talked about his favorite aspects of the sport and his goals for his final season.
His favorite part of track, without hesitaion, he said, "He loves running the 200-meter dash."
His goals for this season are set high. He hopes to place in the top 10 at regionals in the 200-meter dash and finish in the top 5 at the league meet in the 100-meter dash.
With his dedication and drive, Alex is ready to leave it all on the track and make his senior season one to remember!
This week’s teacher spotlight is Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith has been living in Elkhart for 40 years. She has been teaching for 18 years in total. She has worked in Elkhart and other schools. Her favorite memory in all her years of teaching was when the entire middle school had their field trip last year to the national grasslands. They all learned and got to do an old school lunch box exchange. Thank you for all you have done at USD 218 Mrs. Smith.

His favorite class he’s ever taken is Advanced Ag Mechanics. His favorite high school moment has been all of his senior year because it’s his last. Bodie’s plans after high school are either to attend a trade school or start working. His favorite school year has been his senior year!
