To a great extent: I think this learning outcome is successfully achieved mainly through my CAS project on activity. For one of the CAS activities, I join a fencing training camp. By reflecting on my performance each day and setting a personal goal for myself. I began to identify my own strength in fencing, and continue to improve on my strength. I have always been passionate about fencing and have been continuing training, but I don't usually reflect back or plan my training by myself. I usually just follow my coach's plan for me. By doing CAS, I felt I really found my strength in fencing, because different from the goal my coach set for me. By doing the planning and reflecting by myself I could understand my strength better.
To a great extent: I felt CAS have a great positive impact on me because in the CAS project I was able to try new things and consequently able to develop a new skill in the process. In the Seussical CAS Crew project, I work with others to create the prop for the musical. Though as an art student, I have lots of experience painting and creating. However, this CAS project is my first time painting with such a large 'canvas'. I felt in the process I develop new skills. I learn how to work collaboratively with others on an art project. I think it is a great experience for me, as in the future I would have to work with others on an art project. Now knowing how to work collaboratively will definitely benefit me in the future. In many of my CAS projects, I have to break out of my comfort zone. In the process, I learn how to undertake challenges. For example, in the mission trip project, I have to try working with people that are also passive and bad at communicating. Unlike before I mostly played a supporting and passive role, I have to undertake the challenge by being more direct and trying to be the leader of the group. In this process not only did I undertake challenges I also develop leadership skills.
To a good extent: This learning outcome is achieved mainly in two of my CAS projects the design textbook and character design one. As it is more of a creativity-related project planning is really important. Without initiating and planning those CAS projects would be hard to complete. In the process of planning with other students in the project. I learn how to plan out the plan better and work collaboratively with others. Unlike my own creative project, since my two CAS projects are group projects we need a more solid, well-planned plan to better work collaboratively. I felt in the process I also understand how to plan better, when I start a project I just follow the plan set by others, but in CAS I have to push myself to start the project. By planning, I become more clear on what I should do, also by planning I'm able to step by step complete the project without leaving all the things at the last minute.
To a great extent: This learning outcome is achieved to a great extent, as during many of the CAS projects we met restrictions from Covid. Due to covid, it become hard to continue pushing me to work on my CAS. However, I am able to show commitment and perseverance to CAS experience by setting a goal for myself and planning the CAS by week. As not have a regular time schedule and no one by our side warning us, forcing us it is hard to stay focused on our goals. The CAS that shows how I achieved this learning outcome is the CAS activity where I continue to work out even in quarantine.
To a great extent: other than most of my CAS that is about the activity. Most of my CAS projects require working collaboratively, as a result, this learning outcome is achieved to a great extent. In the mission trip CAS project, I learn how to be a leader while working collaboratively with other students. In another CAS project, the design textbook I learn how to work collaboratively with others who also have a strong opinion in design. I feel through different CAS projects I learn a different way of working collaboratively, in some projects I adopt a more passive role some I learn how to be an active role.
To some extent: I feel I didn't really achieve this learning outcome, as due to covid I didn't have lots of opportunities to engage with issues of global significance. The only time I felt I really achieve this learning outcome is when I join with my friend in Canada to work on a project about education. We talk about the issue with general education, and his program aim to solve this global issue. However, I only partly contribute to the program, as I am unable to join their project for the long term. I think I did recongnize issues
To no extent: I think this learning outcome is not achieved mainly because I didn't meet many situations that require me to make ethical choices. I think this learning outcome is the hardest to achieve, as opportunities to encounter ethical choices are not based on us. It is primary base on chances. However still, in the mission trip CAS project. I have reflected on my action, whether or not what I did is right or wrong. Though I think I barely achieve this learning outcome. I still gain something from my experience, knowing that sometime we have to trust others.
What advice do you have for upcoming CAS students regarding making CAS enjoyable, sustained over time and meaningful?
I think CAS is one of the DP requirement that is actually enjoyable, because you have alot of freedom to do the things that you actually care about or interesting in. I will suggest the upcoming student to create your own CAS project base on things you like. Not joining those volunteer work that you will feel force to do, because I felt from those library or musuem volunteer you can't really learn anything. Since you will just be telling to do physical work.
Five years from now, what will you remember most about your CAS programme?
I will remember most about those CAS project that I do it with my classmate. I love how in CAS project we could do it collabartively, so we would have share memory together. I will also remember most about my CAS project about fencing, as it is one of my passion and I'm glad I get to intergrate my favorite sport into a CAS project.
