MY FINAL CAS REFLECTION
The past two years have gone by like a meteor, and it has come to the end of graduation. This website is for the purpose of demonstrating what I have done for my Creativity, Activity, and Service program. During the past two years, I have learned a lot during the experiences from three of the strands, C, A, and S. I need to involve in a lot of activities which allowed me to explore more aspects that I have not ever had a chance to discover yet. There are seven learning outcomes we must fulfill in order to complete the CAS program are the following, identify own strengths and develop areas for growth, demonstrate that challenge has been undertaken, develop new skills in the process, demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience, show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences, demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively, demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance, recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions. Above are the learning outcomes that we need to achieve after finishing up our CAS experiences. This blog will introduce what I have done in the specific learning outcomes.
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
To a large extent, I have achieved this experience pretty well. I think I have applied this learning outcome in every experience I have done. Although I am not an academic person, I believe myself am a collaborative person who likes to do things with others, which also makes me feel highly motivated when working with other people. Also, because I am a social animal as well, working with other people encourages me to talk more and know more about people around me, and even produces an entertaining atmosphere for the people who I was working with.
This picture was taken during the pre-working session for the upcoming musical event because there are a lot of work to do and a lot of new ideas needed to be come up, I have been a role of strange ideas producer which had helped people to find out their work efficiently and easier.
2. Demonstrate the challenge has been undertaken and develop new skills in the process.
More than to some extent, I have achieved this objective in an unbelievable way, which makes my experiences look cooler than they should be. For this learning outcome, the challenge that has been undertaken was finding the social skills which helped me to interact with strangers. The reason why I have chosen this challenge to be the one that I planned to undertake was that I was protected by my family and friends perfectly, and I did not manage to have many chances to interact with strangers or even order a beverage. When talking to people I did not know before I would feel timid and less confident, however, my downside of being afraid of talking to strangers might be the obstacle that I need to overcome in the future.
This was the picture taking place in an event held by the New Taipei city government, and the event was about caring for the elders, which I didn't feel willing to do at the very beginning because this event was not only about strangers but also participants from different cultural backgrounds, and as a teenager, it would be harder for me to integrate into them. However, I found it easier over time.
3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
To a good extent, I have achieved this learning outcome well. Every of my CAS experiences was based on the chores that I do during my leisure time, which means, without having the necessities of putting evidence into Managebac or recording my progress, I would still manage some time doing so. However, with the necessity of recording in Managebac, I found out there was more time for me to organize my schedule. The chance also involved me in taking part in more activities held by the same association. By having experiences combined together, it is not only having the convenience of doing CAS but also getting to know the same group of people well.
This was the photo of me helping cleaning-up some elders' homes. Without doing CAS I just cleaned the house up, but by planning and doing CAS, I have had a chance to help more and put more effort into the action.
4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
To a great extent, I have achieved this learning outcome by showing my commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences. This learning outcome seems to be a difficult one for me to achieve when I first saw this because I jumped to things easily and gave up things easily, however, this learning outcome want to see my endurance with the activities that I was doing. Afterward, I found out that because those experiences were things I truly love, for example, the volleyball league games and even the normal volleyball practice. It would be easier for me to push myself harder and commit to the team.
5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
As I was the team captain for both the school volleyball team and the school basketball team, I had a lot of chances to show my collaborative skills with my teammates. Also, these sports could not be presented individually, which involved a lot of communication skills in order to have a good relationship with my teammates and have a well-organized team together. Having a supportive, well-communicated, and well-collaborate team, our team had become the best team in the school's team for the recent year. I would say to a large extent I have achieved this learning outcome.
6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
To some extent, I have fulfilled this learning outcome several times because of the service clubs we have in our school. We are asked to join a service club, in which I have done a lot of things that I would not be doing so in that club, and people could see my growth with my effort and the result that I've made. The club has a connection with a church in Thailand for years, and club members were able to have a chance to take service action there. It is quite a resource shortage thereļ¼ however, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, we have transferred our service action to a place in Taiwan that has a similar situation with the inadequate teachers because of the environment. We, the club members use the ability we had to advise them about their school's academic content after class with them to ensure they were on the right track. This really shows the engagement with the issues of global significance between me, the club, and the issue.
On the right is the teaching proposal we have used to plan our lesson for them.
7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
This learning outcome is the one that seems to be easy, but the one that was really hard for me to achieve, however, to some extent I believe that I have achieved it somehow. By attending athletic events, there would be chances for me to accomplish this learning outcome, on the basketball team I found out there were so many chances for me to display what I have learned about considering the ethics of choices and actions. Every win and loss of the matches could cheer people up and down, this shows how you are going to deal with the process and the result. By considering the ethics of choices and actions, I don't blame my teammates for not performing well on the court when losing the games, or for contempt for the competitors. I soon became the person who cheered other people up no matter the result of every situation and try being positive when things not going smoothly first than not reflecting on myself.
This picture was taken after the very first game that we have lost, all of the teammates including myself were disappointed in each other at first but later we have just found out the purpose of the competition.
To sum up, having the chance to do the CAS program made myself having some precious memories and some experiences that I will not be forgetting. These experiences were the process and the evidence showing my growth during my two years of life in DP. Although fulfilling all seven learning outcomes in one experience seems to be mission impossible, if you tried to plan and schedule carefully, there would be chances to achieve the most learning outcomes.
Five years from now, I would still be impressed by myself for completing so many serving one another's experiences which also fulfilled my high-school life. Those service experiences seemed unreal for my age to do them, even though maybe I did not complete them as that well, I still have a chance to brag "at least I have tried to do them".
Doing CAS is not as hard as you and I think, you might find out some interesting experiences as time goes by and even when you are writing your reflection!
