Throughout the 2 years of experience IBDP. I have not only expanded my knowledge in academics, I have also learned & grown a lot from doing CAS. To me doing CAS not just only enlarged my experiences, it also helped changed outlook, inspiring me to try and enjoy different activities that I have never tried before. CAS has helped me develop into a more well-rounded person, taught me how to work collaboratively with group members and make reflections on each activity. As I continue to do CAS, I found out CAS is not only a project or a homework, it is more part of my routine that I should do everyday.
At first when I started doing CAS in my DP program, I find it hard as i felt it caught a lot of my time. Because it is nothing related to academics, and it requires you to use your extra time to do something that is not related to the study. However, after I started to do my CAS. I quickly understand how important CAS is. CAS helped me balance my life, that makes me not only hardly focused on academics. It also enables me to make connections with the community while interacting with them. Teaches me how to serve people. All of these factors let me understand how significant CAS is in my DP program.
To a large extent I think I have perfectly completed this outcome with several different activities such as swimming, cycling and badminton. From all of these activities I have realized my own strength in each sport, that these strengths prompted me to create tactics and strategies while competing with my opponents . This growing awareness of identifying my strengths and weaknesses also helped me in my studies as well. From doing CAS, I have also evaluated my learning and found out there are several things I can still improve on, than be discouraged.
To a large extent I think I have perfectly completed this outcome with the activity Triathlon. This is quite new and very challenging experience for me. Very demanding and competitive! There are some challenges i encountered in this Triathlon, such as how to get a good breathing while transiting sports, or how to transit each sports faster. For all of these challenges I have thought of ways to undertake right breathing. I need to try to inhale more oxygen and adjust my heart breathing style for each sports. And in order to reduce transiting time I've learned and realized i need to eliminate those things that aren't so important like wearing socks and shoes in order to reach a faster time. These challenges helped me develop a new skills and strategy while doing Triathlon.
In comparison to other outcomes, I felt this was one of the outcomes that I think is more complicated when compared to other. Because you have evaluate the past events and experiences you are doing as you go, and make a plan on how to improve and exceed better. In swimming as i journey and take regular training, I have to know which area I am lacking and what I need to improve. So the next training I will largely focus on this weakness, exercise and try to make better. Such as imrpoving my endurance and msucular strength. Furthermore, this experience also teaches me how to work with others, such as in winter festival planning where everyone came up with different ideas. from this I have learned how to accept people's ideas and make a commitment to it.
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Overall I felt I showed good perseverance in my swimming activity. I have been swimming for almost 5 years, and never stopped. Even though the process of training is always painful and difficult. I keep losing in competition. But I still enjoy it while doing this sport, and I have a goal too is to beat my dad's personal best. From this, I never stopped training and showed good perseverance and love with this sport. I hope I can continue this perseverance in my learning, that I will never give up and get good grades in my academics too.
In society today, Working collaboratively with people is really significant, it is hard to get a good outcome while learning individually. Because you will get different ideas and perspectives while working with others, such as when I am planning my winter festival and my scout charity sale. All of us came up with very interesting ideas while discussing what to sell on that day, and we all worked together to get as much as they sold. Successfully we earned a quite amount of money on that day. So thankful to all the people who worked with me.
This is one of the outcomes I think I didn't do a great job on it, but it's quite a good expereince. The only thing I think I have been involved in is picking up trash under the water. I did this when I was scuba diving, I found out there are some plastics under the water that is polluting the ocean. I have tried my best to pick all of them up. But it is really hard to get all of them. From this experience I have understood how important it is to not use plastic as much as possible, and try to not pollute the water.
Overall, I felt this is also one of the outcomes that I did not achieve well on it. The thing I think I have considered ethical actions is while im having scuba diving. I was trying to not step on the corals and touch the animals under the water, because I know this will harm them.
Overall, five years from now the thing I think I will remember while doing my CAS is perseverance and commitment to my swimming. A lot of times I try to give up but I still continue because I wanted to beat my dad's personal best record. And the advice I will provide to those students who are going to do CAS in the future is don’t think of CAS as homework that everytime u do an event is like suffering. Treat CAS as doing something you like and make commitment to it, and do not give up.
