CAS is one of the most important processes to go through before getting a high school diploma, the major purpose it wants us to develop are the three themes: Creativity, Activity, and Service. As this is a service-based activity and I developed some of my personal skills and collaborated with others to finish the projects. As a result, it was recording the process of my development outside of school which was very interesting to look back and see what I had done in the year of DPor academic skills. On the other hand, I find myself interested in the three aspects (CAS) that IB wants us to develop.
I think to a large extent I had achieved this outcome. Overall my CAS experiences had very much let me identify who I am and the skills that I had as a strength that I had not realized before. In one of my experiences, I volunteer as a docent at the National Palace Museum. This experience is very refreshing to me as I had never accomplished this type of work individually before with the public visitors. However, after the experience I find myself gaining confidence after practicing a few times. Meanwhile, I find myself enjoying the experiences and developing my ability to illustrate what I have learned to someone else.
To a great extent, I had demonstrated challenges been taken through the three aspects of CAS. They were not as easy as I think they would be in the beginning. The project takes time to plan and take action, meanwhile, it will meet different challenges such as time management, preparation, and collaboration to finish the whole project. The project that I traveled to Jia-Yi individually challenge my skill of planning a trip, traveling by walking or through public transportation at a place that I wasn't familiar with. It shows the difficulties and challenges had been taken to develop some new skills of mine throughout the process of the CAS project.
To a great extent, this approach had been undertaken, since each Project needed to have a plan first before the action started. Especially the project with teaching-related. I need to plan the brief content of what I want to teach the kids and deal with my personal work and the extra work as a preparation for the teaching as PPT, videos, books, and more teaching materials. The plan made each time will change with different conditions of the teaching progress and kids' participation. Therefore there was much planning throughout my CAS experiences.
To some extent, my CAS project had show commitment. Even though it doesn't adapt to all the CAS projects. However, it adapts to the projects that involve tutoring. I think it is important to keep this as a continuous service not only because I'm interested in the area of teaching, but instead because I think the idea of service is important to do continuously. Even though this might be hard but I hope I could help and teach those who needed in the future.
To some extent, this learning outcome had been reached in the CAS projects. Collaboration could be seen as one of the most important elements to finish bigger projects. As the projects are done in the school mission club, we collaboratively finished a small sports day for elementary school children together. Together we are each person responsible for a different part of the project. As a whole, we finish this activity successfully and I believe it would be hard to do this work individually. It to me brings out the realization of the significance of teamwork.
To a small extent, my CAS experiences engage with issues of global significance. My service experience was majorly related to teaching and personal skill development. When I was planning my CAS experiences I really wish I could do another international volunteering activity outside school. However, due to the pandemic, we decide to plan an event in school to collect second-hand shoes for an organization called Step 30. However, due to other considerations, this event couldn't be held. Yet, we locally teach English online to the kids that don't have many resources and live further from the city by different IB units for PYP. And it helps us engage the minor part of the global issue in education.
To a large extent, this learning outcome was undertaken throughout my CAS experience. As lots of the activity was related to serving others, and teaching kids it was important to make ethical decisions for the teaching progress and the efficiency of their learning. My aim for each teaching project is not just to let the kids learn but also want to build their interest in learning. Since I wasn't a professional teacher I need to make decisions about what was best for these students that are still learning.
In a conclusion, I really enjoy doing all these CAS projects. For me it wasn't a burden, instead, it is a project for me to develop my personal skill and to find who I am other than a student. Even though time management was a really big challenge I need to deal with throughout. Yet, I think what I have learned in these project were pretty valuable and are an important part of my learning.
CAS is an opportunity to let you try something that you maybe want to do for a long time but never find a start to do it. So you can seize this opportunity and do it.
Step out of your comfort zone and try to do things you have never tried before, you can learn many experiences other than what you were used to.
If you don't want to do things by yourself you can do it with your friends it will be a lot more fun and engaging.
