Teaching Philosophy
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is the belief that learning should foster a sense of accomplishment for both the learner and the educator. I find deep fulfillment in helping others build confidence and competence, especially adult learners like nurses, medical assistants, and nursing assistants. It’s rewarding to support their growth, knowing they bring valuable experience and a strong sense of purpose to their work.
Learning as a Reciprocal Process
Teaching also challenges and affirms my own understanding. If I can explain a concept clearly and adapt it to different learning needs, it’s a sign I’ve truly internalized it. In this way, teaching becomes a reciprocal process that pushes me to continuously grow alongside my learners.
Interactive, Multimodal Strategies
I believe learning is most effective when it is interactive and delivered through multiple modalities. Not everyone learns the same way, and integrating discussion, visuals, hands-on practice, and storytelling helps reach more learners. I particularly value storytelling, which creates emotional connection and helps concepts stick. I also strongly support the use of simulation. While it can feel uncomfortable, it offers a safe space to practice skills, make mistakes, and build confidence in a realistic yet low risk setting.
The Power of Reflection
Reflection is essential. It allows learners to consider what they’ve gained, what could be improved, and how they’ll apply those insights moving forward. I aim to create a space where this kind of thoughtful engagement is not only encouraged but expected.
Technology for Inclusion and Engagement
Technology, when used intentionally, can enhance access, engagement, and connection. I aim to integrate tools that support diverse learning needs and promote flexibility, collaboration, and creativity. Whether through virtual simulations, discussion platforms, or visual aids, I use technology to make learning more inclusive, accessible, and responsive to individual learners.
Inclusive and Equitable Learning Environments
Creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment is foundational to all of this. I strive to understand who my learners are and anticipate their needs, both as individuals and as members of diverse communities. I believe diversity drives growth, and I’m committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and practicing equity in all learning spaces.
