Kahoot! is a program that allows you to make interactive quizzes for students. There are true false, multiple choice, fill in the blank questions, and many more (see below). You can also add slides between the quiz questions to supplement or reinforce learning. Participants download the Kahoot! app and are given a QR code from the quiz host to join. Points are awarded to participants based on correct answers and how quickly answers are submitted. You can set the amount of time allowed to answer each question and the answer will appear when everyone answers or the timer runs out, whichever happends first. You can create content with a free account, but there are also many options for paying for upgrades which expand your template and image library. Pop-up windows come up often giving you the opportunity to upgrade your subscription. Overall, I found this platform to be user friendly and easy to create different types of quiz questions and add supplemental slides.
I decided to write about Kahoot! this week because it is something that I have used many times with my students, and enjoyed, but I was not the content creator, so I had no personal account or experience other than hosting a quiz in the classroom. I have found this platform to be both exciting and engaging. It helps teachers to assess learning gaps and then immediately re-teach or reinforce learning with visual aids or discussion. Students report positive feedback with Kahoot! quizzes, and I have noticed that many nursing students have a highly competitive nature and enjoy this deviation from traditional learning. The most common negative feedback has been from ESL students who are at a disadvantage due to the extra points given to those who answer the fastest.
