بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
1. اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
1. اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
2. خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
2. خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
3. اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
3. اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
4. الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
4. الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
5. عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
5. عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
6. كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ
6. كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ
7. أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ
7. أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ
8. إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ
8. إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ
9. أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ
9. أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ
10. عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ
10. عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ
11. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ
11. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ
12. أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ
12. أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ
13. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
13. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
14. أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
14. أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
15. كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
15. كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
16. نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
16. نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
17. فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ
17. فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ
18. سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ
18. سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ
19. كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩
19. كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Iqra bismi rab bikal lazee khalaq
Khalaqal insaana min 'alaq
Iqra wa rab bukal akram
Al lazee 'allama bil qalam
'Al lamal insaana ma lam y'alam
Kallaa innal insaana layatghaa
Ar-ra aahus taghnaa
Innna ilaa rabbikar ruj'aa
Ara-aital lazee yanhaa
'Abdan iza sallaa
Ara-aita in kana 'alal hudaa
Au amara bit taqwaa
Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla
Alam y'alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa
Kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa'am bin nasiyah
Nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiah
Fal yad'u naadiyah
Sanad 'uz zabaaniyah
Kalla; la tuti'hu wasjud waqtarib (make sajda)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-
Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-
He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-
Taught man that which he knew not.
Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,
In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.
Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).
Seest thou one who forbids-
A votary when he (turns) to pray?
Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-
Or enjoins Righteousness?
Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?
Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?
Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-
A lying, sinful forelock!
Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):
We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!
Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!

14. أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

15. كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
15. كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
16. نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ

17. فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ

18. سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ

19. كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩

1. ٱقْرَأْ (iqra') - Read
Example Sentence: ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ (iqra' bismi rabbika allathee khalaq)
Translation: Read in the name of your Lord who created.
8. عَلَقٍ ('alaq) - A clinging substance

Translation: From a clinging substance.
9. أَكْرَمُ (akram) - Most Generous

Example Sentence: وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ (wa rabbuka al-akram)
Translation: And your Lord is the Most Generous.
11. عَلَّمَ ('allama) - Taught

Example Sentence: عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ('allama bil-qalam)
Translation: Taught by the pen.
12. بِٱلْقَلَمِ (bil-qalam) - By the pen

Example Sentence: عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ('allama bil-qalam)
Translation: Taught by the pen.
13. يَعْلَمْ (ya'lam) - Knows

Example Sentence: عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ('allama al-insān mā lam ya'lam)
Translation: Taught man that which he knew not.
15. لَيَطْغَىٰ (la-yatghā) - Transgresses

Example Sentence: كَلَّا إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ (kallā inna al-insān la-yatghā)
Translation: No! Indeed, man transgresses.
16. رَءَاهُ (ra'āhu) - He sees himself

Example Sentence: أَرَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ (ra'āhu is taghnā)
Translation: He sees himself self-sufficient.
17. ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ (istaghnā) - Self-sufficient

Example Sentence: أَرَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ (ra'āhu is taghnā)
Translation: He sees himself self-sufficient.
18. إِلَىٰ (ilā) - To

Example Sentence: إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰ (ilā rabbika ar-ruj'ā)
Translation: To your Lord is the return.
19. ٱلرُّجْعَىٰ (ar-ruj'ā) - The return

Example Sentence: إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰ (ilā rabbika ar-ruj'ā)
Translation: To your Lord is the return.
20. نَهَىٰ (nahā) - Forbids

Example Sentence: أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ (ara'ayta alladhi yanhā)
Translation: Have you seen the one who forbids.
21. عَبْدًا ('abdan) - A servant

Example Sentence: عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ ('abdan idhā ṣallā)
Translation: A servant when he prays.
23. هُدًى (hudā) - Guidance

Example Sentence: كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ (kāna 'alā al-hudā)
Translation: He is upon guidance.
24. تَّقْوَىٰ (taqwā) - Righteousness

Example Sentence: أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰ (amara bi-taqwā)
Translation: Enjoins righteousness.
25. كَذَّبَ (kadhdhaba) - Denies

Example Sentence: كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (kadhdhaba wa-tawallā)
Translation: Denies and turns away.
26. تَوَلَّىٰ (tawallā) - Turns away

Example Sentence: كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ (kadhdhaba wa-tawallā)
Translation: Denies and turns away.
27. يَرَىٰ (yarā) - Sees
27. يَرَىٰ (yarā) - Sees
Example Sentence: أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ (alam ya'lam bi-anna allāha yarā)
Translation: Does he not know that Allah sees.
28. يَنتَهِ (yantahi) - Ceases

Example Sentence: لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ (la'in lam yantahi)
Translation: If he does not cease.
29. نَسْفَعًا (nasfa'an) - We will surely drag

Example Sentence: لَنَسْفَعًا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ (lanasfa'an bi-nāṣiyah)
Translation: We will surely drag him by the forelock.
30. نَاصِيَةٍ (nāṣiyah) - Forelock

Example Sentence: نَاصِيَةٍ كَذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ (nāṣiyatin kādhbah khāti'ah)
Translation: A lying, sinning forelock.

Example Sentence: فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ (fal-yad'u nādiyah)
Translation: Let him call his associates.

Translation: We will call the angels of Hell.

Translation: We will call the angels of Hell.
35. لَا تُطِعْ (lā tuṭi') - Do not obey

36. ٱسْجُدْ (usjud) - Prostrate

Translation: And draw near.
