بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
1. وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا
1. وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا
2. وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا
2. وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا
3. وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا
3. وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا
4. وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا
4. وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا
5. وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا
5. وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا
6. وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا
6. وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا
7. وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا

8. فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا

9. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا
9. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا
10. وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا

11. كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا

12. إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا

13. فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا
13. فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا
14. فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا
14. فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا
15. وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا
15. وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Wash shamsi wa duhaa haa
Wal qamari izaa talaa haa
Wannahaari izaa jallaa haa
Wallaili izaa yaghshaa haa
Wassamaaa'i wa maa banaahaa
Wal ardi wa maa tahaahaa
Wa nafsinw wa maa sawwaahaa
Fa-alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa
Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa
Wa qad khaaba man dassaahaa
Kazzabat Samoodu bi taghwaahaaa
Izim ba'asa ashqaahaa
Faqaala lahum Rasoolul laahi naaqatal laahi wa suqiyaahaa
Fakazzaboohu fa'aqaroohaa fadamdama 'alaihim Rabbuhum bizambihim fasaw waahaa
Wa laa yakhaafu'uqbaahaa
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour;
By the Moon as she follows him;
By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory;
By the Night as it conceals it;
By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure;
By the Earth and its (wide) expanse:
By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it;
And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;-
Truly he succeeds that purifies it,
And he fails that corrupts it!
The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing,
Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety).
But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!"
Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)!
And for Him is no fear of its consequences.

14. فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا

15. وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا

1. الشَّمْسِ (ash-shamsi) - The sun
Example Sentence: وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا (wa ash-shamsi wa ḍuḥāhā) - By the sun and its brightness.
Translation: By the sun and its brightness.
2. القَمَرِ (al-qamari) - The moon

Example Sentence: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا (wa al-qamari ʾidhā talāhā) - And the moon when it follows it.

3. الْيَوْمِ (an-nahāri) - The day

Example Sentence: وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰ (wa an-nahāri ʾidhā jallā) - And the day when it brightens.
Translation: And the day when it brightens.
4. الْلَّيْلِ (al-layli) - The night

Example Sentence: وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ (wa al-layli ʾidhā yaghshā) - And the night when it covers.
Translation: And the night when it covers.
5. السَّمَاءِ (as-samāʾi) - The sky

Example Sentence: وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا (wa as-samāʾi wa mā banāhā) - By the sky and what built it.
Translation: By the sky and what built it.
6. الْأَرْضِ (al-ʾarḍi) - The earth

Example Sentence: وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا (wa al-ʾarḍi wa mā ṭaḥāhā) - And the earth and what spread it.
Translation: And the earth and what spread it.
7. النَّفْسِ (an-nafsi) - The soul

Example Sentence: وَالنَّفْسِ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا (wa an-nafsi wa mā sawwāhā) - And the soul and its perfection.

8. فَأَلْهَمَهَا (fa-alhamahā) - Inspired it

Example Sentence: فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا (fa-alhamahā fujūrahā wa taqwāhā) - And inspired it [with] its wickedness and its righteousness.
Translation: And inspired it [with] its wickedness and its righteousness.
9. فُجُورَهَا (fujūrahā) - Its wickedness

11. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ (qad aflaḥa) - Indeed successful

Example Sentence: قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا (qad aflaḥa man zakkāhā) - Indeed successful is he who purifies it.
Translation: Indeed successful is he who purifies it.
12. خَابَ (khāba) - Failed

Example Sentence: وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا (wa qad khāba man dassāhā) - And failed is he who corrupts it.
Translation: And failed is he who corrupts it.
13. كَذَّبَتْ (kazzabat) - Denied

Example Sentence: كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا (kazzabat Samūd bi ṭaghwāhā) - Thamud denied its excess.
Translation: Thamud denied its excess.

15. بَأْسَ (baʾsa) - The calamity

Example Sentence: إِذْ بَعَثَ شِقْيَاهَا (ʾidh baʿasa shiqyāhā) - When the most wretched was sent.
Translation: When the most wretched was sent.
16. أَشْقَىٰهَا (ashqāhā) - The most wretched

Example Sentence: فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا (faqāla lahum Rasūlu-llāhi nāqat Allāhi wa suqiyāhā) - And said to them the Messenger of Allah, "The she-camel of Allah and her drink."
Translation: And said to them the Messenger of Allah, "The she-camel of Allah and her drink."
18. فَكَذَّبُوهُ (fakazzabūhū) - They denied him

21. سَوَّىٰهَا (sawāhā) - Made it level
