87. Surah Al-Ala (The Most High)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
1. سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
1. سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
2. الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
2. الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
3. وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
3. وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
4. وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَىٰ
4. وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَىٰ
5. فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ
5. فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ
6. سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسَىٰ
6. سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسَىٰ
7. إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
7. إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ
8. وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
8. وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ
9. فَذَكِّرْ إِنْ نَفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ
9. فَذَكِّرْ إِنْ نَفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ
10. سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنْ يَخْشَىٰ
10. سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنْ يَخْشَىٰ
11. وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
11. وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى
12. الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
12. الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
13. ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
13. ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
14. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ
14. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ
15. وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ
15. وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ
16. بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
16. بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
17. وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
17. وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
18. إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ
18. إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ
19. صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
19. صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Sabbihisma Rabbikal A'laa
Allazee khalaqa fasawwaa
Wallazee qaddara fahadaa
Wallazeee akhrajal mar'aa
Faja'alahoo ghusaaa'an ahwaa
Sanuqri'uka falaa tansaaa
Illaa maa shaaa'al laah; innahoo ya'lamul jahra wa maa yakhfaa
Wa nu-yassiruka lilyusraa
Fazakkir in nafa'atizzikraa
Sa yazzakkaru maiyakhshaa
Wa yatajannabuhal ashqaa
Allazee yaslan Naaral kubraa
Summa laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa
Qad aflaha man tazakkaa
Wa zakaras ma Rabbihee fasallaa
Bal tu'siroonal hayaatad dunyaa
Wal Aakhiratu khairunw wa abqaa
Inna haazaa lafis suhu fil oolaa
Suhufi Ibraaheema wa Moosaa
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
Glorify the name of thy Guardian-Lord Most High,
Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion;
Who hath ordained laws. And granted guidance;
And Who bringeth out the (green and luscious) pasture,
And then doth make it (but) swarthy stubble.
By degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not forget,
Except as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden.
And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (Path).
Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer).
The admonition will be received by those who fear (Allah):
But it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones,
Who will enter the Great Fire,
In which they will then neither die nor live.
But those will prosper who purify themselves,
And glorify the name of their Guardian-Lord, and (lift their hearts) in prayer.
Nay (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;
But the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
And this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),-
The Books of Abraham and Moses.

10. سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَنْ يَخْشَىٰ

11. وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى

12. الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
12. الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
13. ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
13. ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ
14. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ
14. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ
15. وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ
15. وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ
16. بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
16. بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
17. وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
17. وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
18. إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ
18. إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ
19. صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
19. صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
1. سَبِّحْ (sabbiḥ) - Glorify
Example Sentence: سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَىٰ (Sabbih isma rabbika al-‘ālā) - Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High.
Translation: Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High.
2. الْخَالِقُ (al-khāliq) - The Creator

Example Sentence: الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ (Alladhī khalaqa fasawā) - The One who created and proportioned.
Translation: The One who created and proportioned.
3. الْقَادِرُ (al-qādir) - The Omnipotent

Example Sentence: الَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ (Alladhī qaddara fahadā) - The One who decreed and guided.
Translation: The One who decreed and guided.
4. الْمَرْعَىٰ (al-mar‘ā) - The pasture

Example Sentence: وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَىٰ (Walladhī akhraj al-mar‘ā) - And the One who brings forth the pasture.
Translation: And the One who brings forth the pasture.
5. الْغُسُقُ (al-ghusūq) - The dark, dried-up

Example Sentence: فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ (Faja‘alahū ghusā’an ahwā) - And made it into a dark, dried-up mass.
Translation: And made it into a dark, dried-up mass.
6. الْيُسْرَىٰ (al-yusrā) - The ease

Example Sentence: سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسَىٰ (Sanuqrī’uka falā tansā) - We will make you recite so you will not forget.
Translation: We will make you recite so you will not forget.
7. الْفَزْكِيرُ (az-zakkīr) - The reminder
7. الْفَزْكِيرُ (az-zakkīr) - The reminder
Example Sentence: فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا نَفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ (Fazzakkir innamā naf‘ati dh-dhikrā) - So remind, for indeed the reminder benefits the believer.
Translation: So remind, for indeed the reminder benefits the believer.
8. الْأَشْقَىٰ (al-ashqā) - The wretched
8. الْأَشْقَىٰ (al-ashqā) - The wretched
Example Sentence: وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَىٰ (Wa yatajannabuha al-ashqā) - And the wretched will avoid it.
Translation: And the wretched will avoid it.
9. النَّارُ (an-nār) - The Fire

Example Sentence: يَصْلَىٰ نَارًا كُبْرَىٰ (Yaslā nāran kubrā) - He will enter to burn in the Great Fire.
Translation: He will enter to burn in the Great Fire.
10. الْحَيَاةُ (al-ḥayāt) - The life
10. الْحَيَاةُ (al-ḥayāt) - The life
Example Sentence: بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (Bal tu’thirūna al-ḥayāt ad-dunyā) - But you prefer the worldly life.
Translation: But you prefer the worldly life.
11. الْآخِرَةُ (al-ākhirah) - The Hereafter

Example Sentence: وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ (Wal-ākhiratu khayrun wa abqā) - And the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
Translation: And the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
12. الصُّحُفُ (aṣ-ṣuḥuf) - The scrolls

Example Sentence: إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ (Innā hādhā lafī aṣ-ṣuḥufi al-ūlā) - Indeed, this is in the former Scriptures.
Translation: Indeed, this is in the former Scriptures.
13. الْعِبْرَةُ (al-‘ibrā) - The lesson

Example Sentence: خُذْ مِنَ الْعِبْرَةِ (Khudh min al-‘ibrā) - Take a lesson.
Translation: Take a lesson.
14. الْإِبْرَاهِيمُ (Ibrāhīm) - Abraham

Example Sentence: صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ (Ṣuḥufi Ibrāhīm wa Mūsā) - The Scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
Translation: The Scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
15. الْفَجْرُ (al-fajr) - The dawn

19. الْعِبَادُ (al-‘ibād) - The servants
