Old Business
Safety
There are incident reports to APLE chairs every Monday
There has been an uptick in incidents (20 last week, near 40 the week before)
If you’re stressed or have concerns about safety, reach out to APLE officers (they’re on the Safety Committee)
When in doubt, file a PITS report.
Fire inspectors are visiting branches
Reynolds Corners had to remove a doorstop because of an OSHA concern.
Bring environmental/OSHA concerns to APLE officers (mold, air quality, broken doors, ect.)
Fire exit was partially blocked by voting machines at Kent.
Contract extension
We got our 4% raise and our October increment staff received their 5% increase added to it, which is totaled as 9% increment (which slightly means less money than 5% then 4%).
Sick Leave Bank and Short Term Disability
HR accepting some verbiage, but intermittent FMLA for SL Bank must be related to a prior 10 (or more) Day absence.
Short Term Disability is not required, but is an option if employee doesn’t have enough sick leave.
We only have verbal agreement about Sick Leave Bank and Short Term Disability, but not yet written for MOU.
Practice changed when SL Bank was opened up to CWA. Previously, CWA members had to have maxed out their sick leave in order to withdraw from the bank.
New Business
Bond issue passed.
2025 Annual Leave
Requests are due Nov. 30.
February 17 is Staff Development Day.
ELT is denying Annual Leave requests for that day.
Previously, AL could be used.
Officers will ask if exceptions can be made (for prior engagements, ect.)
Open enrollment
Last day was Monday, Nov. 17.
Any issues, let APLE officers know.
Other
Steve is part of 54 staff who need to take their fraud training still.
Don’t take training on a shared computer because it will generate a certificate for the first person who took the training on that PC.
New Customer Service Standards document from HR is in the works
Was given to APLE for review.
These standards apply to all library staff.
There are six additional policies for review
Employment of family members, Use of library owned materials, Discipline, Surveillance, Attendance, Short Term Disability
Likely won’t go to the board until next year.
There is concern of confusion over overlapping policies, which may contradict union contracts.
CWA has sick leave attendance policy in their contract, APLE does not.
A grievance Jotform idea was pitched.
IT Third party
Has California offices, do they have local employees?
Why is IT not part of a union?
Because of their access to confidential materials.
Why isn’t Marketing?
We aren’t sure–Marketing deals with more confidential materials now?
Recent employment updates
Is there a better way to distribute additional staff in case of branch closures, to open branches that need and can accommodate extra staff.
Help desk problems
Tickets aren’t getting checked
Contact APLE if this is happening
Connecting Meals to Kids
Can we have at every branch?
Sanger worried about accommodating during tax season.
Timing may have to do with grant funding.
Sanger needs a full staff.
Adjourn: 7:18pm.
