Do I report to work during a County Snow Emergency?
From Article 18 – Emergency Closings
In the event a Level III emergency is declared in an area where the Main Library or Branch is located, the Library located in that area will close, to the best of the Library’s ability, within one (1) hour.
Should the Library remain open and a Level III snow emergency is declared in an area that an employee resides or must pass through to report to work, the employee will be compensated. An employee must inform his supervisor of his inability to travel due to the emergency prior to the beginning of his scheduled workday.
From the Lucas County website, here is the official definition of a Level III snow emergency:
A Level III Snow Emergency is for all roads and streets in Lucas County, including state, county and township roads and all city streets. This declaration does not apply to traffic on the Ohio Turnpike, but does apply to all other roads and streets in Lucas County.
This means that no person except operators of public safety vehicles on duty or otherwise responding to an emergency; and essential news media personnel, including reporters, support, and production employees; health care and other emergency personnel; and essential employees of critical infrastructure facilities, may drive on roads and streets in Lucas County. All others traveling on the roadways might be subject to arrest. All public safety employees must report to work as scheduled.
There is a difference between a City Snow Emergency and a County Snow Emergency. Generally, City Snow Emergency levels (I or II) do not affect Library operations.
Managers should be contacting their staff in the event that there is a closure. You can also call LIL (419-259-5200) for information about the Library being closed. Closings will also be posted on the local TV channels.
