Old Business
Safety
APLE gets reports on Mondays.
Kim, Erin, Steve, and Teresa attend quarterly safety meetings with CWA and admin.
If someone calls for a specific worker at LIL or a branch, don’t disclose their location to the caller.
Take a message or direct them to HR.
Let new librarians know.
Evaluations
Did not go well this year.
We suggested going back to Word document with comments.
Can be uploaded to Kronos
HR looking at simplifying Kronos evals.
Exempt staff getting raises based on evaluation score and multiplied by 0.8%.
HR knows some questions were redundant.
There were several technical issues.
One person had their evaluation go to their manager, supervisor, regional manager, and HR to look over.
Two of these people have minimal contact with average daily work.
Rebuttals can be submitted: submit through interoffice mail, email HR to let them know it will be coming.
New Business
State legislation bills
Several bills are at the statehouse about restricting access to books in public and school libraries.
We have asked our reps in UAW Region 2b for help.
Librarian job responsibilities
Librarians being asked to do the job of other workers, like shelvers.
If you are doing the work of CWA frequently, let APLE know.
If the phrase “you can always work down” comes up, let us know.
If you are taking the initiative to do the work, that is fine.
Shifting is ok to do, if you aren’t being asked to do the bulk of it.
If these tasks become a part of your normal work, that is the problem.
The library has asked us to delay contract negotiations until 2025.
HR wants to focus on the bond issue on the ballot.
We must file for negotiations by August 21.
We need a proposal to extend the contract. We are waiting on HR.
We could negotiate for wage increases.
APLE will get to vote on it.
Bond issue
Includes Washington and Whitehouse branches.
The projected budget from PLF is down $500,000 for the year.
Bonds are for brick and mortar, building new branches, and renovations.
The board voted on Washington at the board meeting.
Tech Services was told Whitehouse will be on the bond.
The library will likely promote the bond through yard signs, and other 21st century means.
Motor vehicle policy
HR heard but provided no additional details or adjustments to the concerns presented to them.
They seem more focused on liability.
We have taken concerns to the quarterly security meeting.
Library looking into Uber as an option for transportation.
Mobile drug tests are not an option.
If you are driving a coworker off-work time, that is your time, you can do what you want.
You can’t drive a coworker if they are having a medical emergency on work time.
Main parking
Being used by courthouse people.
Can’t these people be suspended?
The gate was down at the top, people were tailgating workers in.
Need a sign that the parking lot is for library customers only.
Validation of tickets didn’t work either.
Some workers are being forced to park in paying lots.
