Clutchless Start

The bike requires the clutch lever to be squeezed in at ignition start. I was told its a safety feature, but not sure how its exactly safe. As I have the habit of always starting the bike to warm. And I use this time to wear my helmet, gloves, adjustment of jacket bags, etc. , I don’t like my stuff clunking all over the bike for just trying to start. There is one modder on youtube who simply disconnected or cut the clutch switch tooth. Disconnecting the clutch switch brings an error code on Euro spec bikes, according to dealer and some online forums. So I felt the only way was to emulate it.

In the image, red and blue goes to battery ground with Blue and White connected to separate wires from the ECU.

To do this mod, you need 4 T Clips and a 12V SPST relay, both available on Aliexpress. I recommend the 12V automotive relay due to their construction method which is weather resistant.

Do this mod at your own risk. I studied the schematic, measure the line voltages and came with this solution. What actually happens is, when you press the start button, it sends a 12v signal to the ECU while the clutch action send a 0V signal to the ECU.

So, I’ve spliced the 12V signal line to the power coil of the relay. The 2nd pin of the power coil is connected to ground. So start button will energize the relay.

The Normally open points of the relay is spliced to line that sends a 0V signal to the ECU and the 2nd pin of the NO contact is connected to ground. So, when start is pressed, relay energizes and a sends a signal to the ECU which thinks that the Clutch is squeezed and starts.

If the relay or connection fails, just use the clutch as per default and start.

NOTE: if in stationery, bike is in gear and side stand is up and start is depressed, bike will jerk forward. Imagine this in default state where you are not aware that the bike is in gear, clutch in, start the bike, and dump the clutch thinking its in neutral….the outcome can be not fun.
