Brembo GP4RX

ABS Bypass

The R model comes with Brembo M4 calipers and a Brembo production 18mm master pump. This is fed thru a ABS system which has become a norm in production bikes in the 2010’s decade. For reasons unknown, this default configuration on the R model is known to have spongy brakes. Research on internet indicates its a global phenomena and there is no solution, even with a silent factory recall. I felt its due to the ABS unit. On a personal note, I do not like how the brake lines are routed from the calipers to a point just above the radiators at the frame. Typically, lines go along the forks how to the master.

The image indicates the situation with my brakes every morning, where the pump squeezes to full with ease. This has a tendency to occur midway thru riding, depending on the frequency of the use of front brakes. It can be dangerous as a couple of times during emergency scenarios, I felt the bike did not come to a complete stop at a distance its suppose to.

My immediate quick fix thought was to replace with a standard brake line used in race setup. I got hold of a ZX10 – 2006 Goodridge Superbike brakeline. This came for $20 from ebay.

As I was gonna have to bleed the whole lines anyway, I got hold of a Brembo GP-4RX 32mm pistons, 100mm mount calipers from Omnia Racing. Who could resist the nickel finish. I sold off the Brembo M4 and Master to make up for it.

And also Brembo 17RCS Corsacorta to complete the package from Chromeburner. I went with Brembo’s recommendation for 17mm pistons on the Master for the 32mm pistons on the caliper.

The OEM ABS unit was left intact. Otherwise it will leave an error code. The Banjo joint for the front brakes above the radiator will be left exposed after the removal. I got hold of a single banjo joint, sealed with epoxy and reattached. I am considering removing all the lines up to the ABS unit.

The end product as completed. You no longer have brake lines that is routed weirdly from the calipers to the frame. Its instead nicely routed along the forks. Mostly importantly, this great bike has the ideal brake package now.

The ZX10 2006 brakelines are a little snug for my liking. I will be replacing the lines with Coremoto 3TE lines soon. I will update the details upon completion.

This is the MotoGP / SBK style brake hose setup which is available from Coremoto. They are able to do custom lengths, colors, sleeves, banjos etc. The turn around time was quick.

This style allows for both calipers lines to look symmetrical from the lower tripe tree. And most importantly improve the line slack from my first install.

Symmeterical lines

Used velcro instead of zip ties

Alot of dead flies. Needs a wash

Updated caliper with Titanium bolts and banjos
