Historia Reiss is the current Queen of the Walls, a graduate of the 104th Cadet Corps, and a former member of the Scout Regiment. She is the illegitimate daughter of Rod Reiss, the true monarch of the Walls, and the last surviving member of the Reiss royal family. During her time as a cadet, she lived under the false identity of Christa Lenz, hiding her true lineage until the truth of her heritage was revealed. After a successful coup d’état, Historia ascended the throne, replacing the puppet monarch and becoming the new ruler of humanity within the Walls.
Historia is known for her petite frame and is the smallest soldier of the 104th Cadet Corps. She has long blonde hair, large blue eyes, and a heart-shaped face, features that gave her an angelic image among her peers. Her classmates often admired her beauty and gentle demeanor, with some even referring to her as a goddess or angel. During expeditions, she usually tied her hair into a low ponytail and wore the standard Scout Regiment uniform and cloak. After becoming queen, however, she ceased participation in field missions and took on her royal duties.
As Christa Lenz, Historia was initially shy, kind, and selfless, traits that made her beloved among her peers. However, her kindness was deeply rooted in her upbringing—her desire to be seen as good stemmed from a belief that she was a mistake who needed to earn love through sacrifice. This manifested in severe suicidal tendencies, as she often sought to die in ways that would allow others to remember her favorably. A notable instance of this was her attempt to save a wounded comrade, Daz, during a snowstorm, an act that nearly cost both their lives.
Despite her seemingly angelic persona, Ymir recognized that Christa’s kindness was largely a facade. The real Historia, hidden beneath layers of self-denial, was empty and unsure of her own identity. After Ymir’s departure with Reiner and Bertholdt, Historia fell into disinterest and apathy, even admitting she was hollow inside. Eren Yeager, however, remarked that she seemed more genuine after dropping her false persona, encouraging her to embrace her true self.
During the coup d’état, Historia began to reclaim her strength and identity. She defied her father’s manipulations, refused to inherit the Founding Titan through his plan, and ultimately killed him when he transformed into a Titan. Her newfound courage extended to smaller but symbolic acts, such as punching Levi Ackerman at Mikasa’s suggestion. After becoming queen, she sought to embody her true self by creating meaningful change, such as establishing an orphanage to help children who had suffered as she once did.
Childhood: Historia was born on the Reiss family estate as the illegitimate child of Rod Reiss and a household servant. Her mother was cold and distant, treating her as a burden and openly regretting not killing her at birth. Her only source of warmth came from her half-sister Frieda Reiss, who visited her in secret, taught her to read, and encouraged her to live kindly like the heroine Christa. Frieda always erased Historia’s memories after each visit to protect her, leaving only fleeting feelings of warmth.
Life as Christa Lenz: After being coerced into renouncing her name and heritage, Historia enrolled in the 104th Cadet Corps under the alias Christa Lenz. There, she became known for her gentle and self-sacrificing nature. She ranked among the top ten graduates and later joined the Scout Regiment, where her close bond with Ymir became a central part of her growth.
Coup d’état and Ascension: Following the fall of the old monarchy, Historia revealed her true heritage and was crowned queen after overthrowing the puppet ruler. In a decisive act of strength, she rejected her father’s manipulative plan to pass down the Founding Titan and killed him after his transformation, asserting her independence and will.
Queen of the Walls: As queen, Historia dedicated herself to supporting her people. She opened an orphanage and became a figure of compassion and leadership, balancing the heavy responsibility of ruling with her desire to be true to herself.
