Hange Zoë was the 14th Commander of the Scout Regiment, succeeding Erwin Smith after his death during the Battle of Shiganshina. Formerly a section commander, Hange was renowned for their obsession with Titans, conducting experiments and research that advanced humanity’s understanding of their enemies. They also became a key figure in guiding Paradis during its conflict with Marley and later the world. 

Hange had light brown eyes and medium-length dark hair, usually tied up in a messy ponytail with bangs parted in the middle. Their most distinctive features were their thick-rimmed glasses, often secured with straps to prevent them from falling in battle. After being injured at Shiganshina, Hange wore a black eyepatch to cover their damaged left eye. They typically dressed in the Scout Regiment uniform with a yellow shirt underneath, and during expeditions, they wore the standard green Scout cloak. 

Hange was known for their energetic and eccentric behavior, approaching Titans with a mix of scientific curiosity and compassion. While often quirky and excitable, they were also capable of making sharp tactical decisions under pressure, balancing empathy for their comrades with the harsh demands of war. Hange’s fascination with Titans stemmed from an early realization of their unusual biology, and they treated even captured Titans like living beings, grieving deeply when they were killed. Despite their cheeriness, Hange could also be intimidating and ruthless, especially when interrogating enemies such as Pastor Nick. Their sudden shifts between humor and menace highlighted the complexity of their character. 

Early Career: Hange initially joined the Scouts with hatred toward Titans but quickly became fascinated with them, leading experiments that provided critical insights.

Titan Research: They studied captured Titans like Sonny and Bean, forming a bond with them and pioneering theories about Titan weaknesses.

Battle of Shiganshina: After Erwin Smith’s death, Hange was named commander, inheriting the responsibility of leading humanity’s fight. They suffered severe injuries during the battle, losing an eye but surviving.

War Against Marley: As commander, Hange oversaw expeditions beyond the Walls and later the attack on Liberio, where Paradis struck Marley directly. They managed both military strategy and political challenges as the island came into contact with the outside world.

Final Stand: During the Rumbling, Hange sacrificed themselves to hold off the advancing Colossal Titans, buying precious time for the alliance to continue their mission. Their death was honored by comrades, remembering them as both a brilliant scientist and a courageous commander.
